Last season, Fofana started and finished 11 league matches and we only lost 1 match and it was against Man City, earlier in the season. Any intelligent Chelsea fan wouldn't criticize Fofana's quality, but definitely frown at his unavailability due to injury. A fit Fofana will bench Tosin and give us an improved defence, even in Colwil's absence.

You should be reminded that without Fofana, we had a clean sheet against a PSG that scored your water-tight defence home and away, and bundled you out of UCL, few months ago. We are obviously missing Colwil and Fofana is not yet fully fit. So, rest.

Fofana is individually a better defender than Chalobah and Tosin, but does he alone stop us from giving away big chances unnecessarily, making errors at the bag, or conceding easy goals from set pieces?

There's no way one will play 38 games and concede no goals. My grouse has always been that we are way too soft at the back and concede goals we have no business doing and that a team that does that can't challenge for titles.

Even if Colwill and Fofana were both fit and starting, we would still have a soft underbelly.

This should come from a rival fan with poor knowledge of our players' quality. Someone who doesn't know the difference between James and Gusto.

The softer underbelly got us to top 4 last season and also flogged PSG with a clean sheet, even without Fofana. No sane Chelsea fan will not prefer a fit Fofana and Colwill in our team, the stats are there but you are blind to them.
