I rember Professor Bolaji Akinyemi at the start of the Trump administration advising Presisent Tinubu to avoid having any issue with America.

Boko Haram as you rightly noted is fighting for a Nigeria to be governed with Sharia criminal laws, the same laws embraced by the political and religious leaders in 12 far northern Nigeria states.
