At the same time, traditional leaders in the North, such as the Sultan of Sokoto, have generally not been vocal about the killings in the North Central or the Northwest, and that restraint, to some extent, does not reflect well on him. All leaders across every spectrum of this country must speak out against this menace, whether it is ethnically or religiously motivated or driven by any other cause. Terrorists, bandits and religious extremists must be confronted firmly. Governments at all levels should invest heavily in arms and security infrastructure, while the populace must stop politicizing security issues.
