A foreign policy expert, Walid Phares, has called on the United States President, Donald Trump, to establish an emergency base in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

In a post on X, the American expert hailed the United States president for endorsing a possible invasion of Nigeria to States Department of War in quelling alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria.

He suggested that America’s intervention could be conducted “in the south, from Biafra to Plateau, to push back the jihadists and Boko Haram.”

He added that a lesser approach would be to use what he termed “air assets” against terrorists and other extremist groups.

Describing the Port Harcourt as “the main port city of the Biafra region,” Mr Phares stated that the creation of a military base in the city would discourage operation of the Boko Haram terrorist group, as well as other jihadist groups, from perpetrating both threats and killings of Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

Mr Phares said, “Such a move would enable the rapid deployment of international humanitarian aid, particularly assistance from American churches” to Nigeria.

He stated, “President @realDonaldTrump has issued two strong statements condemning the jihadist attacks on Nigerian Christian communities and has directed the Secretary of War to prepare contingency plans for the ‘protection of communities’ in Nigeria.

“Should the federal government fail to stop the jihadists—as has been the case for years in northern and central Nigeria. In the meantime, targeted strikes against jihadist forces could also be considered.”
