During Private Meeting, Donald Trump Asked Me, ‘Why Are You Killing Christians In Nigeria?’ – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has recalled how during his private meeting at the White House with former President, Donald Trump, the then US leader had asked him “why are you killing Christians in Nigeria.”

Buhari according to a release by spokesperson, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday said he then proceeded to tell him (Trump) that the issue in the country was not religious, but rather criminal, and a usage of religion by some elements was to further their economic, and sometimes, political interests.

According to the release, Buhari spoke at Nouakchott, Mauritania, Tuesday, while meeting with Rashad Hussain, United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom.

The Nigerian president said some people hid under the canopy of religion to advance their economic and political agenda, and continuous education was needed so that the larger populace would not be hoodwinked.

The statement partly read, “Recounting his private meeting at the White House with former President Donald Trump, the Nigerian leader recalls Trump asking him: “why are you killing Christians in Nigeria,” and how he proceeded to tell him that the issue in the country was not religious, but rather criminal, and a usage of religion by some elements to further their economic, and sometimes, political interests.

“It’s a problem Nigeria has been struggling with for a long time, and it is completely unnecessary,” President Buhari said. “Some people use religion as sentiment, but with adequate education, people are seeing through it now. Majority of the people just want to practice their religion without problem, but some people cash in on religious misunderstanding for their own ends.

“When people are educated, they are able to discern when others want to use religion for certain ends. They do it mostly for material reasons. Also, when some people are incompetent, they bring in all sorts of excuses, including religion.”

“Ambassador Hussain said the United States of America is interested in partnering with Nigeria in the areas of formal and non-formal education, towards religious harmony.

“There’s so much we can do together to promote peace, promote communal harmony. We love what you are doing, and we would be glad to assist as appropriate,” he said.

It's quite different now. Back then, late President Buhari had a well-respected Christian vice president who related well with the Western world. But now, Christians no longer have a voice - no one to speak for them in the presidency

US did their research and had people on ground all these years. They have all the data about the genocide. It was all about which administration was ready to confront the situation.

President Buhari's response to President Trump underscores the complexity of the issues in Nigeria.

Nigerians lack awareness and self-respect to the extent they'd even sanction a lunatic thrashing their own President without understanding they are being disrespected by association.

Trump's Narcissistic, autocratic nuisance and dubious mental state of mind has been questioned by many professionals yet he is same person now hero to some Nigerians.

Especially the saboteurs and haters of our nation from a certain region. Really obvious many Nigerians also have mental health problems.

And what exactly is the Nigerian affairs, to use inept, poorly skilled, ill equipped, undisciplined security forces to fight well armed ,vicious and dangerous bandits carrying out the genocide.

This is where the real issues are, Nigeria has bot been able to curtail or stop the killings, it is time for a more disciplined, skilled force to come and stop it

So the question is this, what fundamentally has changed between the more than 7 years ago he asked this question and now?

Why are we so blessed that Trump is now remembering us Christians again and he wants to invade on our behalf..... or are the killings are now worse than under Buhari's time

The only concrete thing I can see is we have reduced our importation of refined product from them and reduced their market in the whole of West Africa due to Dangote's refinery...

...it seems to simplistic, but Trump will only commit troops when their is an economic gain , at least that's the idea about America First and Make America Great Again.

Buhari speaking to Trump back then shows the caliber of leaders we have in Nigeria.

President Buhari always prioritizing Nigeria's interest and ensuring our sovereignty is intact.

Education is key, and I love that he emphasized that.

And you the lover of Nigeria defending bandits, how much more can one love his country if not supporting killers?
You are a perfect example of your people and the reason I always indict you guys correctly as an unreasonable people who hatred for others has compromise their logic and capacity for critical thinking always and beyond repair.

Here, you are quick to call me a defender of bandits because I don't agree with your self-destructive support of the idea USA arbitrarily and dictatorially attaxk Nigeria protected from such by international law and sovereignty.

Isn't it wonderful how my earlier post proves you people default conduct is to lie because of primordial prejudice against others?

Oya na, show my defence of bandits from below.

WizardOfNG:
Bro, I hear you and I have same reservations about USA but Nigeria is in a different situation to the likes of Iraq, Libya etal USA had long designated as part of the "axis of evil", under George Bush Jr America felt it had to destroy to lessen the real and actionable terror threat they believed such nations posed to their nation.

Nigeria is no threat to the USA in the same way. We all know the unspoken truth about Nigeria which is that this is not about a President simply waving a wand and terrorists and bandits disappear.

Simplistically, it is crystal clear to all upright, critical thinking and honest Nigerians that Northern Presidents, usually Fulanis, won't kill the Killers of Nigerians, and would rather "rehabilitate" and "reabsorb" them into society.

Same North, biggest victims of terrorism and insecurity, will never allow a Southern President (be it OBJ, GRJ and now Tinubu) kill these vicious killers of Nigerians they know must be wiped out for peace and progress to reign.

They will begin shouting "genocide against Moslem Northerners" they will then use to justify inviting their compatriots worldwide, especially in the neighbouring Sahel Nations, to invade Nigeria and fight/kill the "infidel haters of Islam".

This is the constant trap they set for Nigeria meaning we will never overcome insecurity especially rotating power between North and South every 8 years.

A Northern President, even if unhappy to do so, will, for fear of backlash from his fellow Fulanis and Northerners, surely abet and protect terrorist and bandits in his 8 yeats in power rather than wipe them out and set powerful deterent to all Northerner against engaging in such.

The 8 year turn of the South too is useless because, regardless of how resolute a Southern president is to end insecurity, he won't be allowed to fully deploy his power in ways that end terrorism and banditry i.e vja a total and uncompromising war against terror and terrorists, bandits etal.

I am tired of Fulani killers marauding Nigeria and causing death, tears, fear and socio-economic stagnation while Atiku, Sule Lamido, El Rufai, Malami and co santimonioualy call Tinubu names daily, pretending to be seeking the good Governance of Nigeria, whereas they say and do nothing about the menace of their fellow Fulanis to Nigeria.

I have been demanding, for years, that all Nigerians must put petty sentiments aside and insist, with one voice, Northern leaders do the right thing and end insecurity in their region, that is affecting oir entire nation, as only they can.

If it takes the intervention of the USA and the world to kickstart the involvement of Northern leaders, at all levels, in delivering solutions then so be it. The killing, suffering and displacement of Nigerians is too much especially as we know these guys can be wiped out in three months in our armed forces, especially NAF, are given free reign to do the needful.

We are surely heading for far worse than the genocide Rwanda saw with this gradualist and compromised fight against terror likely needing a third force, outside Southern and Northern Nigeria, to intervene in.

Moslems are probably the biggest victims of terrorist and bandits menace in the North. All this 'projection' you people are engaging in, because you have ulterior motives, is distasteful and sad to witness for those of us who live in Nigeria and are aware of events first hand.

There is no organised, strategically tiered and consistent effort towards "Christian genocide" in Nigeria.

Yes Christians are dying and that, as a Christian, I condemn. Yet such does not blind me to the reality of how the killers murder their own fellow moslems more.

The terrorist and bandits killings/insecurity in Nigeria is so much more nuanced than the narrative the USA, always operating with hidden agendas, is trying to push under a President who sees himself as a messiah ordained to pursue the enshrinement of Christendom globally.

There are issues related to farmers and herder tussle for land specifically stemming from how Fulanis believe violence and killings can help them take over the land of others be they Christian or Moslem. We are seeing this happening in North Central and Kwara today.

There are issues to do with pastoralist, now armed casually with AK47, fleeing southward to escape desertification and then engaging in opportunist crimes like kidnapping since they have AK47 and others don't.

We could go on all day. Bottom line is that the issue is complex and cannot be reduced to the simplistic "Christian genoncide" cop-out the USA , under Trump and his Christian band of extremists, wishes to use burnishing their image as the champions of Christian nationhood worldwide.

Nigeria , by omission or commission, should not abet or be part of their plot. We have our own challenges and should face those challenges alone and steer clear of being the losing pawns of others in a much bigger game.

Buhari and his desperate pursuit for power is the reason why the country is in this mess.
Buhari invited all these killers plaguing the country right now. He invited them to help him fight Jonathan if Jonathan refused to concede election in 2015.

Jonathan surprised them and conceded. Instead of Buhari to settle those boys and send them back, he abandoned them. Those are the Fulani boys in the forests of Nigeria right now. They have also invited their relatives and friends from all over Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad. These are the killers going after innocent Nigerians and ceasing their lands.
