I have been reading with amusement the pipe dreams of many haters of the Nigerian government that Trump is going to send gun-blazing commandos to come and rescue Nigerian Christians from "Genocide."

Really, how many such events have occurred in history? Education is not a waste, but it looks like Nigerian education systems have failed many of us. If not, shouldn't we have learned from Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria?

If Trump cared that much about Christians, he would not be rounding up Christians in places of worship in America. The Bible says, "By their fruits, you shall know them." Trump likes to play to the theater. In the long run, if Trump is genuinely interested in helping Nigerian Christians, it will be done jointly with the Nigerian government.

I heard that Tinubu, who we were told could not step into America without being arrested, is going to the United States to meet Trump or his Vice President. I think it is a bad move, but I am not a diplomat. Tinubu should have sent his Vice President or an ex-president like Obasanjo or Jonathan. I doubt Trump ever met an African leader he did not humiliate. I guess his justification would be that he signed up for the job, and rising to the challenge is his responsibility.

Let me burst some people's bubbles. Trump and his team believe in bully diplomacy. America wanted to send its imprisoned Christians to Nigeria, which the Nigerian government has refused. Some desperate Christian leaders in the Middle Belt/North cried out for help, which played into the Trump administration's hands. They are now using this to bully the Nigerian government into submission.

I believe someone somewhere told the Nigerian government that Trump likes to make a deal and advised that Tinubu go and meet Trump for a deal. Depending on how desperate Tinubu is, he can agree to accept some prisoners from Trump and in exchange get security aid, and all will be "dandy." If he is very desperate to avoid a religious war that will benefit no one in Nigeria, he may throw in a rare earth deal for Trump.

Yes, American boots on the ground in Nigeria, "gun-blazing," will benefit neither Christians nor Muslims. A Yoruba adage says if you have witnessed the striking of thunder, you will not join them in insulting the god of Thunder ("Eni ti Ara ba to ju e wole, ko ni ba won bu obakoso". We have seen the thunder that struck in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria. If we go by the experience of these countries, Boko Haram will be ruling Northern Nigeria by the time America returns home. I wonder what the security situation and cost of goods in the Southwest and Southeast would be like then. No, the country will not divide. Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, and Iraq are still one country to date.

How can USA say it wants to invade your country and you are rejoicing? They will set Nigeria behind by 50 years. There is no country the USA has invaded that was better for it. If you think you are hungry today expect a worse hunger.

The sad reality if the collateral in war. Many Christians, women and children will die. And they will not root out islamist terrorist. Invasions often radicalise the young ones who are victims of the effect of warfare.

Nothing is wrong in bombing terrorist hideout. However, when another country bomb the territory of a sovereign nation without the invitation/cooperation of the government, it is a violation of that country territorial sovereignty.
