How many tonnes of plantain can we farm on 20 acres land?

I hope the land is not leased. You should buy the land first and secure it from omo onile and land grabbers. Then you can think of starting your plantain plantation. Twenty acres of plantain is not easy to manage o. Watch videos on YOUTUBE.COM about cultivating plantain. Cheers.

Instead of using 20 acres to plant plantain, just inter-crop it with pineapple.
Pineapple is more profitable than plantain.
Note :
1. look for pineapple suckers and plant plantain within so that the plantain will not form too much shade on the pineapple.
2. You will begin to harvest plantain before pineapples start producing after 15 months.
3. Do research and confirm this.
You will appreciate later.
Finally, if you experience plantain glut, you will understand better.

It won't at all.

1. Just plant the pineapples with the spacing of 45cm apart in a line and 60cm apart btw the rows. This will give u like 15,000 suckers in an acre.

2. Make sure u plant plantain at least 3 meters apart for proper spacing so that it will not shade the pineapple.

3. After 14 - 15 months you will induce the pineapple for uniform flowering. When it is exactly 18months u will harvest the first round of pineapples. Subsequently, harvest will be every year like plantain.
But it's game of number. At least, u will sell minimum of 10,000 pineapples per acre.

4. 10,000 pieces of pineapples multiply by at least #800 or #1000 farm gate price =8Million or 10Million per acre.
Finally, money realize from plantain will be used as your clearing or running cost.

10,000 per acres? Or hectares. You know say 2 1/2 acres na Im be 1 hectare= 1 standard football field= 10plots.

Your best way to cultivate this is by intercropped with maize, cocoayam, plantain with cocoa

Very good suggestion. Good thinking. However, you need to guard against thieves. Crop theft is rampant in Nigeria.

Your price analysis on pineapple is false, first the spacing on the pineapple would produce small fruits and also the farm price of pineapple this year was 700 naira for the biggest head ( 45cm by 60cm ) won't achieve this.
Right now the biggest head sells for between 400 naira to 500 naira.

Intercropping plantain & pineapple. What if I increase the spacing between each pineapple to improve the size upon harvest? Will it work?
