Don’t know why u always take pride in ignorance, sharia law is a state law enacted by the state house of assembly, wetin concern president?

U are not even saying the national assembly should amend the constitution, it is Tinubu u are demanding?
Jmoore if u are not aware, ignorance also promotes terrorism, one must be conversant with the law.

Any law that is contrary to the constitution of Nigeria is null and avoid.

If you want sharia, remove yourself from Nigeria and join Afghanistan.

Yes, Sharia Law is part of the problem. Isn't it stupid, barbaric, senseless and foolish to KILL a HUMAN BEING in the most brutal possible way (stone to death) because of blasphemy....that sometimes are not proven?

And, why should a country have two laws? Why? The other day, a Sharia court STOLE the property of a Christian Igbo man. Not too long ago, the Sharia people decided to extend their tentacles down South.

Q country should have only one constitution, not 2. Sharia should be abolished.
I am not an advocate of Sharia law but you must recognize that it is an age old Muslim practice which is traceable to even Saudi Arabia and a lot of elite Moslem nations.

In Nigeria, a lot of northern countries have passed it into law. They have chosen to be governed by the primitive practice which is popular vote for them because they are predominantly moslems in those states.

You can't force them to ditch it Sharia law because you are minority in those states. Attempts to tackle Sharia law now will only throw the country into crisis and further divide us along religion lines, I don't think Sharia is an immediate threat.

I think that the immediate threat are the bandicts, terrorists and kidnappers all over the country and more active in the northern part of Nigeria. That is the challenge that the world, including the stupid and annoying Donald Trump, should be helping Nigeria to overcome. Not for Donald Trump and USA to be threatening Nigeria, stoking disunity in Nigeria, trying to divide Nigeria across religious line and creating crisis in the country.

The country is not like USA where you have Moslems as minority. Nigeria has a major Muslim community and Major Christian community. In fact, Christians are in the minority in the northern parts of Nigeria.

Thank you for your feedback. Find my reply below, please.

1. Sharia is an age-old practice, true. But what is the essence of civilization? How many age-old practices have been thrown away? Killing of twins, cannibalism, slave trade, etc. As the tides of growth approach a civilization, the expectation is that it will wash away harmful practices while reinforcing positive values thereby preserving a people's heritage. Dubai, for example, does not stone to death/kill because of blasphemy. In Singapore, those found GUILTY of blasphemy can be imprisoned for up to a year. The other Muslim nations are dropping off some of these senseless practices but in Nigeria (like most black societies), we blindly and foolishly bind ourselves to [evil] things.

2. You noted that northern states have passed Sharia into law. But, should a country have 2 constitutions? As a matter of fact, should Sharia apply to non-Muslims? Available Nigerian literature on religion strongly opine that it shouldn't. The Nigerian 1999 Constitution is not in support of the application of Sharia to non-Muslims. Why, then, should a Christian be STONED TO DEATH or BEHEADED because of blasphemy? Are you aware that Sharia and its blasphemy law is weaponized and used as a tool against non-Muslims like Christians? In one BBC report (2018), Blasphemy Law was noted to have been used as a tool against Christians. Do you realize that once one Muslim raises an alarm that an individual (usually a non-Muslim) has blasphemed against the religion, without any hearing or other formal procedures, that poor individual would be stoned to death or have his head CHOPPED OFF? I deliberately did not use "behead" so readers will get the weight of the situation. Does this even make sense?

Let's see what the Nigerian Constitution prescribes for blasphemy. Under Section 204 of the Criminal Code, the punishment for blasphemy is 2 years imprisonment. But the BLOOD-THIRSTY Sharia people would rather have a life for this. So, is the Sharia Law superior to the Nigerian Constitution? Does this even make sense? Up north, Christians continue to live in fear and caution, praying that nobody raises a blasphemy alarm against them as they know that if this were to happen, in a matter of minutes or a few hours, they may be KILLED, just like that! Examples: Deborah, etc. Quite recently, a food seller in Niger State was LYNCHED for blasphemy. Now, did these people even have a chance in a reputable court? No, they were just killed.

3. I (and other Christian minorities) should not be responsible for stopping Sharia. The government, empowered by common sense and the Constitution, should ensure that this Sharia situation is looked into. If we don't do anything about it now, it just may come and swallow us all in the future. They are tactfully injecting Sharia down south. They call it all sorts of names, claiming that it'll only apply to Muslims. But is this the situation in the north? Absolutely no! Once accepted, in the coming years, you and I may begin to read of similar northern Sharia tales in the south. Conquest mentality at play! "Conquer the land" appears to be the agenda of these people.

To your question: yes and no. Sharia has always been a threat, the killing of Christians it has resulted to has caused uproars; one day, the momentum of this uproar may destabilize the country. This is the kind of thinking the DSS should entertain. But, true, immediately, Sharia's threat may not be up to the scale of banditry and all that, but it somehow empowers it. This is why something should be done hastily about it.

4. You surely cannot imagine the scale of military aid (in terms of technology and finances) Nigeria has enjoyed from the USA! But, what have we done with it all? Insecurity continues to thrive. Corruption is the order of the day. Terrorists are forgiven and allegedly allowed to roam the streets. What happens to the lives and families that have been destroyed? We see clearly that the government lacks the political will to tackle insecurity, especially as it occurs in the north. If you were the USA, would you continue to sponsor Nigeria? If you have a relative that constantly comes to you for funds and all, and he wastes your money away, would you continue to provide funds to this person?

Importantly, the USA did not threaten Nigeria, or its government. A threat would be a statement noting an attack on the country, its government and all that. This is what Israel and Iran did against each other - for example. Trump only said he would address these TERRORISTS. His words should not be twisted.

Let me conclude by asking: what would you have wished for if you were in the north and have lost your relatives to Fulani bandits? Would you continue to hope on the Nigerian military? Can you imagine how painful it will be if you see a bandit that claimed the lives of your loved one on TV, brandishing AK-47, laughing and celebrating after having a peace-meeting with the state government? That is, the killer of your loved ones have been BEGGED by the government to drop their arms....and they can now walk freely...

It is a complex situation.

May God continue to keep us all safe.

May He give us the right leaders.

Amen.

You can't force your view of Sharia law on the Moslems. The way you see Sharia law is not the way they see it. We must learn to respect each other's religion for peace to rain. Unfortunately, over eight states have passed the Sharia into law and there is little we can do about that. If they will abolish it, they will eventually decide to abolish it but if you are compelling them to abolish it, you will only embolden them.

Deborah's killing is very unfortunate, barbaric and should be condemned. It was a typical example of religious intolerance and I am embarrassed at the manner in which the governor of Sokoto and so many northern Moslems and Moslems clerics handled the matter of the killing of Deborah. Having said that, I must yet request the major religions in Nigeria to be more tolerant with the various faiths.

It is unfortunate that they tend to extend the implementation of the Sharia law on non Moslems in those states where the law is in place. It is essential that the government of the state or Nigeria defends the persons in the Sharia courts, through free legal practice, to emphasize that the accused is not Moslem so the Sharia law can't be effected against such person.

Better still, Christians can try to relocate from hostile environments to environments down South that are more conducive and welcoming to all faith.

Sharia law is not an immediate threat, terrorism is the immediate threat that we have to tackle decisively. Sharia will die a natural death when the propagators realize it is outdated. As it stands, you and I can't stop Sharia law. Even the government has allowed it to become law in those states so it is now difficult to stop it now. It can only be contained for now.

The support of USA gives Nigeria is majorly sharing of intelligence, that they feel they can share with us, and sales of military artillery and equipment to the Nigerian government. We appreciate it and we want more of cooperation, sharing of intelligence, sales of artillery and military equipment. We are even open to joint military operations or isolated military operations by the only the USA military in Nigeria but there is need to have the approval and permission of Nigeria to operate military operations in Nigeria at any point.

The statement that the 🇺🇸USA military would plan, coordinate and strike in Nigeria, without express permission and approval of the Nigerian government can only be decaled as an invasion of Nigeria by USA🇺🇸. That is how it is done in the international community, that is being respectful of the country you intend to engage. That is civil and international acceptable conduct. Nigeria isn't wild wild west or a lawless nation, Nigeria is a sovereign nation and the independence of Nigeria must be respected.

You may need to read Donald Trump's words again or visit his TruthSocial page on X for more information on what he said.

If I reside in a northern state that is hostile to my faith or impose their religion or Sharia law on every other faith it the state. I would relocate with my family to states that are receptive, conducive and welcoming to every other faith. Leave federal and state government, with the help, assistance, support, collaboration and joint effort with advanced countries military, to tackle terrorism across Nigeria.

Stop the propaganda of interpreting the terorism in Nigeria to be a genocide against Christians or targeting of Christians in Nigeria.

No, I am not forcing my view on Sharia on Muslims - or anyone. I'm only speaking for Christians unjustly being forced to participate in Sharia business. I'm only speaking for Christians that have been killed because of blasphemy. I'm speaking for Christians that continue to live in fear in the north. "They will eventually decide to abolish it" sound like "Christians should continue to be killed until their killers eventually decide to stop killing them in the name of blasphemy and other guise...even if this takes a century."

I totally agree with you: we must exercise religious tolerance. I totally agree.

Totally agree with your third paragraph. But to add, the government should put out a statement banning the Sharia court from inviting or involving non-Muslims in their business...not just providing legal services for them. As a matter of fact, heavy legal implications should befall any Sharia agent that attempts to invite non-Muslims to its court. The FGN must speak out on the matter, now. Why has the government been silent? Why? Very recently, a Christian Igbo man's property was forcefully taken by a Sharia court. It trended across a number of online platforms - including Nairaland. Did you read any statement from the FGN? I didn't. Should this be so?

Christians should relocate down south, you say. Do you imply that a Christian whose ancestral land is in the North Central (eg, the people of Yelwata) should pack their stuff and travel down south and live as refugees? In their absence, who would take over their lands, graze their fields, acquire their properties? The bandits? Isn't this the conqueror mentality I mentioned earlier? This appears to be the aim of the Fulani bandits. They chase victims away from their villages, take over their lands and do as they please.

Sharia has been a threat, and it is still a threat. You and I may not be able to stop Sharia. It is the government's responsibility. Let's just continue to pray and hope that the government's failure to do something about Sharia doesn't amount to a bigger problem in the future.

America gives more than intelligence and trade to Nigeria. As recent as 2023, the USA gave approximately $1.02 billion in aid to Nigeria. Regarding Trump's statement: let's see how events unfold and how other nations will react to it.

Lastly, you did not answer the questions in my last paragraph.

I would keep up the hope in Nigerian military, after all I am Nigerian. I wouldn't mind collaboratipns, joint military operations and even isolated military operations in Nigeria as long as the federal government of Nigeria permits and approves of it.

Your rhetorical statement:

"Christians should continue to be killed until their killers eventually decide to stop killing them in the name of blasphemy and other guise...even if this takes a century."

It is sarcastic however, I must again tell you that you don't stay in environment where you are not wanted or overstay your welcome. When it is time to move on, please do so for your(you and your family's) safety, sanity and well being.

To the best of my knowledge, there is only one state in the North Central that operates the Sharia law and the state is Niger state. Every other state in the North Central (Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Plateau, plus the Federal Capital Territory) remains secular. I believe the Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria holds sway in those states so there is no significant threat to any religion practice in those states so no one is requested to leave their lands or aboriginal space for religion reason.

Again I emphasize that the immediate threat in Nigeria is terrorism and I concur that federal abd state government need to take it seriously and combat it ASAP, efficiently and effectively.

I agree with you on your last paragraph (stated this in my first post): Nigeria's immediate threat is terrorism spearheaded by the Fulanis (and BH). BUT Sharia is also a threat that should be addressed sooner than later before it snowballs into something bigger than the terrorism we face now.

The other secular states you cited, are they free from the Fulanis? No.

Lastly, I do not support the fact that people should leave their ancestral homes for the Fulani invaders. If this happens, do you think the Fulanis will stop? They will only proceed down south, take over land , kill, and advance (already happening).

Solution: the Nigerian government should stop being irresponsible. Tinubu said a whole lot when Jonathan was in power. He said the bulk of the responsibility to safeguard lives and property lies on the table of the president. Well, Tinubu is president today, let him act like one! So far, he has failed (by the way, presidents before him failed too - Buhari, Jonathan, Obj). We have not been lucky with our leaders. This isn't an APC-PDP matter. Our leaders have all failed. Those in the opposition now are only talking because they are not in power. Look at Reno and FFK.
