Dalohad:When we had minister of science background back then…did you have any good results? What about Aviation Minister Keyamo..is he not doing well? It’s political appointment. Let him just do the right thing to be done |

aribisala0:You dare compare UK that has long-term national strategic plan and working structures in place to Nigeria that is still in dire need of vision, direction and critical policies to drive our Science and Technology sector. Only a professional can review what is on ground, interact with fellow professionals in the ministry and come up with ways forward. I insist that a lawyer will struggle just as an engineer will struggle as Attorney General. |

66uvie:In the parliamentary system Ministers are appointed from Parliament So you must first win an election as a legislator This tells us a Ministers role is political not technical The Minister is there to represent the people His job is repeat political and administrative What happens is most ministers should be able to head any ministry that comes from being in government for long doing internships and serving in various roles That enables a BALANCED perspective without the BIAS that a so called expert like UMAHI might bring The ministers is there to give leadership and direction, set targets, operate a budget, understand the law and protect the people whilst advancing the political agenda of his principal |

festacman:I dare When we gained independence that is the system we operated That is your opinion it is not in the Bible quran or constitution Awolowo was a lawyer and one of best finance ministers ever You are ranting Go and find out what Henry Ford studied Dangote is Not struggling in a field where hundreds of engineers did A very important part of technology is intellectual property law Most technologies are driven by military imperatives or find military applications The most important technology leadership function is to set goals not to be another technologist You need not know anything about car engines to be an excellent driver Do a Google search on Carlos Parreira and Arigo Sacchi legendary football coaches who were not players |

You lack vision and deep thinking capacity. Service to the country is not about what you study in school. It's ability to make good decision and team work. Those that are scientists appointed before what do they achieve? Dalohad: |

aribisala0:So, how come we discovered oil under Gowon and never had long-term plans to use it to diversify the economy. Till today, Nigerian economy is largely monocultural. Obviously, the foundation of post-regional and oil-driven economy was faulty. Certain shortsightedness wass responsible, no doubt. |
| Re: Tinubu Appoints Kingsley Udeh As Minister Of Science And Technology by aribisala0(m): 5:50pm On Nov 04, 2025 |
festacman:We did not discover oil under Gowon You are derailing and doing so with lies Shell Camp in Port Harcourt was built before the War It was occupied by Nigerian troops The Military Hospital in Port Harcourt was built by Shell the army took it during the war Like I said you don't know but think you know everything My advice Stop talking You have nothing sensible to say# |
| Re: Tinubu Appoints Kingsley Udeh As Minister Of Science And Technology by festacman(m): 5:58pm On Nov 04, 2025 |
aribisala0:I love intellectual bullies. Come on. Yes, I wrote oil discovery under Gowon instead of OIL BOOM. My mistake but I didn't derail. I wanted to show that a good Economist or Finance professional could have been more visionary and enthrone a better strategic plan with the oil boom. |

festacman:Not relevant to this thread You do not. SHOW a thing by expressing it as an opinion It is just an opinion but regardless not relevant here there are several countries that have had lawyers as Science minister It is a political job not a technical one We had a boom under Iweala, highest price ever what did she achieve If Dangote was Science minister I would be delighted The job is to put a team together give them targets and provide leadership A Minister is a deputy of the President |
| Re: Tinubu Appoints Kingsley Udeh As Minister Of Science And Technology by festacman(m): 6:20pm On Nov 04, 2025 |
aribisala0:With your mindset that at this point of our underdevelopement that anybody could serve as Minister in any ministry, I can conclude that setting a new agenda and direction as well as implementing critical reforms in the various sectors of our economy is still a long way. |

aribisala0:It’s honestly amusing how people love to speak on things they clearly don’t grasp. Seems like complaining is easier than thinking — classic mob mentality. Funny enough, the current Minister of State for Finance is a medical doctor. So, by that logic, what’s medicine got to do with finance? |

Alfred200825:) I asked CHATGPT Ah! That makes a lot of sense now. You’re asking in the context of **a lawyer being appointed as a minister for Science and Technology**, and why that might happen. Here’s the reasoning: 1. **Policy and Administration Over Technical Expertise** * Ministers are primarily **policy makers and administrators**, not always technical experts. * The role involves **budgeting, legislation, international collaboration, regulation, and oversight**, which are areas where lawyers often excel. 2. **Legal and Regulatory Oversight in Science & Tech** * Science and technology sectors are heavily regulated (patents, safety standards, data privacy, environmental compliance). * A lawyer brings **knowledge of law, governance, and regulatory frameworks**, which can be crucial for steering these sectors responsibly. 3. **Bridging Science and Government** * Scientists are experts in their fields but may not have experience navigating political, legislative, or bureaucratic systems. * A lawyer-minister can **translate scientific priorities into policy and legal frameworks**, ensuring innovations can be implemented within the law. 4. **Diplomacy and Contracts** * Science and technology often involve **international collaborations, contracts with companies, or public-private partnerships**. * Lawyers are trained to negotiate, draft, and enforce agreements—skills critical for such roles. ✅ **Bottom line:** A lawyer as Minister of Science and Technology doesn’t need to be a scientist; their job is to **create the legal, policy, and administrative environment that allows science and technology to thrive safely and efficiently**. If you want, I can give **real-life examples of lawyers appointed as science/tech ministers** in other countries—it’s more common than people think. Do you want me to? Great — here are a few real‑life examples of lawyers being appointed to ministerial roles connected to science, technology, or higher education: --- ### 1. Søren Pind (Denmark) * He is by profession a lawyer and politician. ([Wikipedia][1]) * He served as **Minister of Science, Technology, Information and Higher Education** in Denmark from 28 November 2016 to 2 May 2018. ([Wikipedia][1]) * This case shows a lawyer being placed in a science‑/tech‑related portfolio. --- ### 2. Zahid Hamid (Pakistan) * He is a lawyer by training. ([Wikipedia][2]) * He served as **Minister of Science and Technology** in Pakistan from 23 June 2013 to 21 November 2014. ([Wikipedia][2]) * Another example of a non‑science specialist (in terms of academic background) leading a science/technology ministry. --- ### 3. Aisén Etcheverry (Chile) * She is trained as a lawyer (law degree from University of Chile). ([Wikipedia][3]) * She became Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation in Chile under President Gabriel Boric, starting 10 March 2023. ([Wikipedia][3]) * A recent example illustrating the same pattern. --- These examples show that appointing a lawyer (rather than someone strictly from a science or engineering background) to a science/technology‑oriented ministry is not unusual. Instead of purely technical expertise, such appointments often reflect the importance of policy‑making, regulation, legal/ethical oversight, and governance in the science & technology field. If you like, I can pull up **5‑10 more such examples globally**, along with details of their performance and how the legal background played into their role. Would you like me to? Despite the fact that I know this man, and can confirm that he is very viable in law, but he is not the right person for this ministerial post. Haba! Mr. President, Enugu state has other capable hands, in the field of Technology, that can fit this position, not a lawyer. This is the hand work of Peter Mbah, and that son of Onoh from Ngwo. Mbah, is compensating Udi LGA. Just checkout the two recent appointments (Chief of Air Staff & now a Minister) from one LGA alone, out of 17 LGAs that make up Enugu state. |

Newsgeek24:This is how they keep taking us more than ten centuries backwards. Yet, their mumu followers keep defending with everything in them. How can you appoint someone who don't know what an atom is to service as minister for science and technology? No wonder Nigeria as a country cannot produce even a pencil. Only in Nigeria will a lawyer be overseeing power, works etc |
