The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, over his reaction to the United States’ recent designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Seye Oladejo (Mogaji), the Lagos APC accused Obi of attempting to “turn a sensitive national issue into political theatre rather than demonstrate statesmanship.”

According to Oladejo, Obi’s delayed response to the U.S. action showed a lack of genuine patriotism, arguing that his eventual comments were “too little, too late, and too predictable.”

“For a man always seeking microphones and hashtags, his sudden silence was deafening — until well-meaning Nigerians began to publicly question it,” the statement read.

“It has become clear that Obi did not speak out of patriotic instinct, but out of public pressure and fear of further exposing his double standards.”

The ruling party in Lagos accused the former Anambra State governor of finding delight in the nation’s difficulties, describing his attitude as “selective outrage” and “political opportunism.”

“Real leaders defend their country in difficult moments. Statesmen balance criticism with dignity and national pride.

But Peter Obi appears content only when Nigeria is under pressure, believing every challenge for the nation is an opportunity for his political resurrection,” Oladejo said.

The statement further asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working diligently to tackle insecurity and strengthen Nigeria’s global standing through reforms and strategic interventions.
