Cadavers used in Nigeria are basically dead criminals who are actually seen as government property. Anybody killed by firing squad in the past goes to medical school for research and teaching of medical student.

I think this also apply for unclaimed corpses that have stayed in morgue for years.

In a country where crime rate is high, I don't think they should have problem with sourcing body for scientific studies. Any criminal that is kpaied should be sent to the formalin tanks of medical schools for studies. So Nigerian medical schools should have plenty dead bodies for study.

My advise is that it should be avoided. The reason is that if you find yourself in a medical emergency the medical personnel may not bother to put in thier best to save you especially when they are in need of a body or when there is incentive to provide a body for research. Generally, they tend to be biased against going the extra mile to save such patients

In NY ... you can check to be an organ donor on your driver licence. In case of death in an accident the hospital will immediately grab your organs while fresh. Organs or always in high demand but short in supply. I would not opt to donate any part of me for research ... but I do understand the reason. But this is a grave concern ... if one is a donor ... 25 year old health fanatic... is involved in an accident ... rushed to the hospital is critical condition.... do you really believe the doctors will do everything to save his life? ... or be hovering over him with scalpel in hand anxiously waiting for him to kick the bucket then diving in to dig out his eyes and carve out his organs?
