Hello pls since I graduated I have been working at a filling station as a fuel attendant. The job I s time consuming as there is no day off as everday is a working day failure to attend will cause deduction and insult from top officials.

It makes me feels bad when I stand in front of the machine everyday. I think about my statue. We sweep the floor everday passers by threw papers food remains and any sort of thrash and we picked it up ., Mop glasses the filling machine someday.some time a costumer may insult you or see you ass a cheat over small mistakes. This make me feel depressed sometimes as It is hard to tell my friends what I do now for a living pls any advice for me for motivation 😢

May be you should go and look for a sales job, you will get more abuse but the most important thing should be the money. Create an exit plan and be focused, you exit plan might be earning a particular range that will lead to you switching job

As far as your job pays your bills...

See it as a means to an end. There is dignity in labor.

Just keep working on improving your situation or getting a better job.

Meanwhile, be dignified in what you do. Accept and love what you do. Don't feel bad about a job you do temporarily that pays your bills. They are worse and despicable things people do to survive. Your job happens to be legit.

I feel everything is your state of mind. Be proud of what you do. Do it with your head raised up high.

That job doesn't define your person!

Have you tried unemployment? I don’t see the harm in experiencing the other side of things.

If you have access to electricity. Invest in yourself by learning a skill. When you close from work, spend at least an hour or 2 daily in learning a tech related skill. Learn skills like coding, graphic design, video editing, SEO, VA, and a host of others. You can learn a lot by being consistent even if you dedicate an hour daily, the most important thing is pick 1 and stick to it.

See your boss derogatory comments as motivation to investing in yourself. Depression will only make things worst for you.

You should not be ashamed of the legitimate job that takes care of your basic needs. If you check well, there are many unemployed persons roaming around that wish to be in your position.
The only downside is that it consumes your whole time and does not give you some free time to scout for other job opportunities available within your locality.

Suggestions:
1. Look beyond the challenges and identify managerial skills you can learn from the current job. This will increase your chances promotion or securing better jobs.

2. Whenever you are not attending to customers, go online to learn a few digital or real life skill that relate to your goals in life. You will be surprised how much you can learn online. If real-life skills (fashion designing, welding, agriculture, electrical works, mechanical works etc.) are your preferred, check for those that are easy for you to gain free or low-cost practical experience maybe from a friend, family member, neighbor, acquaintance etc.

3. Look beyond the business challenges and maintain a positive energy and friendly countenance when attending to customers. A positive energy has a way of attracting good fortunes. Even when some customers are rude, try to maintain your composure and do not try to retaliate.
Some people have been able to get better job offers from their customers just by maintaining good customer relations.

NB: Do not always beg customers for tips because it passes you as cheap and irritating.

Sounds like one of those jobs where you could benefit from listening to audiobooks while working. If possible, get books on developing your emotional and social intelligence to listen to while you are at least picking up trash, washing windows or standing. Listening to books, you will improve your mind, and also provide you a distraction from the doldrums. undecided

There is DIGNITY IN LABOUR.
Your story is not complete because you roll out the challenges of your duties but you refused to roll-out when fuel attendant are KINGS & Queens where there is fuel scarcity. All the challenges faced at your place of work is just temporary. Almighty God shall soon pick your call and your will look back and say THANK YOU LORD ALMIGHTY for making you pass through the stages of life.

How are the people to whom you cannot tell what you do for a living be your friend? Pride or low self exteme is one major problem you may have.

The day you overcome it, that's the day you will understand that no legitimate job is to be looked down upon. There is dignity in labour. It is that day you will begin to open up to your friends more. Opening up sometimes makes way for information and commitments to help by people.

Starting from the bottom is not an issue in my opinion, but doing a job that you believe you are overqualified and demands so much time and commitment that you are not able to plan and execute your next move is a problem

Why are you ashamed of your job? The thought of cleaning up after others greatly troubling you is an indication of inflated self worth. If you were as good as you think you deserve you won't be working there.

But what do I know, if you think you can do more why don't you prove it and make a plan to get out of there.

You must strive and prove to yourself that you can do better, by being conscientious with your work.

Op...

Here are my suggestions:
1. What do you have a natural flair for? Something that you can do easily. Once you can/have identified it, develop it and market it.

2. Be smart, look for opportunities around where you work. I know a fuel attendant that out of the blues told me that he sells tires both new and tokunbo. Unknown to him my supplier has been posting me for a while for some tires. I saved his contact.

Think of something you can market to the people who come to buy fuel. You meet all classes of people so find something that won't hurt your job or being trouble from your organization and market to your customers.

3. Someone above has talked about skills that are in demand. That's a good advice.

4. Plan your way out. I noticed you didn't say what you are paid is bad even though I know you want more. So, I'm assuming that your pay can take care of your needs and maybe you can save a little monthly.
Now look at your major expense power, food, shelter. See how you can handle them smartly. Like buying food in bulk, instead of running gen constantly, look at solar inverter/solar gen installation so that you save money and can use power when you need it. Save up your rent before it gets due, and if you can do that months before it is due out the money in secure bank investments so they accrue something, no matter how small before you withdraw it and pay your landlord.

Keep an eye out for better jobs. Them plenty but they don't come cheap or easy sometimes.

Wish you all the best ..
