Tinubu Government's HYPREP Water Project In Ogoni Land Collapses Four Days After Commissioning

Just four days after its inauguration, the overhead water tank at the Gwara Water Project in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State has collapsed.

The situation has sparked outrage among residents and raised serious questions about project execution under the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

The facility, commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Environment alongside HYPREP as part of the ongoing Ogoni clean-up and community support programme, was designed to provide sustainable potable water to the people of Gwara community after decades of environmental pollution and neglect.

Some eyewitnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the structure suddenly gave way, sending the metal frame and tank crashing to the ground. No fatalities were reported as of press time.

This was supposed to bring relief to us after so many years of suffering without clean water. Now look at what has happened in less than one week,” a resident lamented, urging authorities to conduct a thorough probe.

They should probe the contractor who will probably be one of their people for doing useless work.

Below are some of the other project HYREP claimed they did a they are under the Ministry of Environment.

Make them buday the contractor, he got questions to answer.

But it is not Tinubu that is physically constructing the project. Corruption runs in the average Nigerian from top to bottom, all the people involved in this construction are to blame. Easy to blame the president, but Nigerians need to take a hard look at themselves first. Market women cheat customers, employees cheat their workers, government workers cheat, yet all these people will sit down and be pointing fingers at "the leaders".

I’m one hundred percent certain that you all will be quiet again if they start the project again and complete it. Obidients will even curse anyone that praise the government for the success.

Funny people.

The decrepit C in C and his decrepit projects. Worthless old people who know nothing and do nothing well. Project portfolio filled with trash and nonsense.
Crazy aspect of this whole thing is that these people had the opportunity to learn from the best. Lived their youth in absolute bliss. You'd wonder what they'll gain from destroying a legacy others built and replace it with incompetence, corruption and stupidity before they leave this earth with nothing.

Who should probe the contractor?

The people who have no power to do that or Tinubu's government that gave the contract out under the ministry of environment?

You are saying they should go for the contractor, you and I know that this might be the last you will hear about this issue because Tinubu's government has shown to be very irresponsible...

Re: Tinubu Government's Water Project In Ogoni Land Collapses Four Days After (video by 9jatriot(m): 3:59pm On Nov 05, 2025
Failure truly has no friends.

There was silence when this project was conceived, built, and commissioned—no news, no broadcast. But the moment it failed, gbam! The enemies of progress wasted no time broadcasting the failure to the world.

Now, to the heart of the matter: Nigerian contractors have a way of undermining even the best intentions of leadership. The civil servants tasked with monitoring projects often remain glued to their office chairs, claiming to oversee progress from afar. And if the government dares to hold them accountable or remove them, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) steps in with emotional blackmail, flooding headlines with tales of workers being "thrown into the labor market."

Being a good leader in Nigeria is an uphill battle. There are too many deliberate traps set at every turn, designed to ensure failure. And don’t be surprised if this contract was awarded to an indigene of the community—someone who was handsomely paid for the job—only for the result to be this disappointing.

Now the headline called it Tinbu's Water Project, just because it suffered a mishap. If this project had been successful, they would have deployed all the tricks in the text book to downplay its significance.
