When the Pulpit Holds Its Tongue: Adeboye, Oyedepo, and the Quiet in the Face of Crisis

A couple of days ago , Donald Trump thundered across the Atlantic: Nigeria, he said, was allowing the “killing of Christians in very large numbers” and warned that the United States might suspend aid or even consider military action if Abuja failed to act. He declared that he was “going after terrorists and bandits committing heinous crimes.” The statement, as explosive as it was, set off a storm, internationally and at home.

Amid this global upheaval and fear, Nigeria’s most celebrated Christian pastors, Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church Worldwide have largely remained in the shadows. Their silence, real or perceived, demands scrutiny.

This is campaign of calumny that the Southerners are known for, so, there is no general overseer in Igboland, na only Yoruba pastor be the face of Christianity in Nigeria.

Those are tribal bigots masquerading as men of god.

On the issue, my take is simple

Remember what Mordecai told Esther

What I call Esther 414

If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”

Oh, it's only GO that are eligible to defend Christianity, the likes TREM Founder, Mbaka, Odumeje are exempted because they are Igbo, but when it comes to laying curse and wishing death, that's where their anointing flow.

Their callings is to lay curse and prophesisd the taking of Lagos as compensation for their good deed

Friend, face the issue.
Can you compare these people you mentioned to those the OP mentioned?

Let's not tribalize this abeg

Truth is there are more prominent or well-known Pastors from the Southwest the OP didn't mention like Dr.Olukoya, WF Kumuyi, Gbile Akanni etc

Why didn't he mention them if the aim was tribalism?

Unfortunately, you are the one reading tribal bigotry to the post.

I think the OP is particular about those he mentioned because they seem to have more global and political influence.

Daddy G.O has more influence on Tinubu than an Olukoya or Kumuyi.
If Daddy G.O organizes a protest on Christian Genocide, it'll not be watered down with IPOB or igbos trying to bring Tinubu government down

You are the tribal bigot here

What in the post suggests bigotry? Are you the only one who doesn't know the influence of Adeboye or Oyedepo in Nigeria?

The more you go this route, the more people read tribal bigotry to their silence.

I won't be surprised if he'd be the first to tag them IPOB G.Os

Or say the igbos are crying more than the bereaved

Only the pulpit of Yoruba pastors you love to hate is holding it tongue.

Pulpit of Okonkwo Odumeje Eneche Mbaka Morka atc are not holding their own tongue ba ?

All your igbo pastors do not have international relevance but when it is time to insult Tinubu their tongue will develop wailing relevance ba.

And in you lr mind you all are not bigots but patriot of Christ ba. When Adeboye n Kumuyi come to Igboland to preach you claim your people should stone them, should not pay tithe to them but today you want to use them to your benefit.

Na you wise pass sebi na so Ojukwu wise.

What is wrong in using the platform of
Mike Okonkwo
Felix MORKA
Paul Enenche
Mbaka
Odumeje
You can even use late Dr King platform though that one built the foundation of his church with human skull 💀

etc

Now that Nigeria has America's attention, if it doesn't maximise the opportunity, it will never arise again.
I was thinking that PFN or CAN would have sent a high powered delegation to the Whitehouse by now clearly state their position. Kumuyi was the one who gave the word charge at Trump's second term inauguration. Adefarasin is a friend to the Trump family and was even invited to his daughters wedding.

If they can't maximise this opportunity now, then CAN and PFN should be disbanded as they are completely useless.

Your own interpretation of “Hold its tongue” is self induced.

What u are expecting is a lousy dragging by bloggers on the pastors’ comments…and that you’ve not seen one doesn’t mean they’re not speaking against genocide or the wrong government.

You can follow their messages or services to know their stands…check on Pastor Oyedepo.

Pastoral office is a sensitive or delicate post that needs carefulness and self-control else, one could lose what he’s built in minutes.

That’s a convenient excuse, but silence wrapped in carefulness is still silence. When injustice is loud, moral leaders don’t get the luxury of whispering to their congregations while the nation burns.

No one’s asking for lousy dragging or online noise, we’re asking for courage in the face of crisis. The pulpit has always shaped conscience and policy in this country; pretending it suddenly became a private space the moment power shifted is disingenuous.

If Oyedepo or Adeboye have truly spoken against what’s happening, then it shouldn’t take detective work to find it.

Pastor Adeboye and Oyedepo are great men of God. They know Nigeria is a sovereign nation and we solve our own problems without foreign interference.

God bless Nigeria
