At least four farmers have been killed and several others declared missing following renewed attacks by suspected armed herders in Oglewu District of Ohimini Local Government Area, Benue State.

The assailants reportedly invaded the area on Monday and Tuesday, attacking residents working on their farmlands.

Community members told journalists that locals now live in constant fear as the attackers continue to operate unhindered.

“They killed two farmers on Monday and another two on Tuesday afternoon. Some people are still missing, and around 5pm today (Tuesday), they came into the village again. We’re living in fear,” a resident said.

Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Adole Gabriel, confirmed the incident, adding that he had notified the state government and security agencies.

“Four people were killed between Monday and Tuesday by armed herders. The government has already deployed security personnel to the area,” he said.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, on Tuesday were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not returned.


Benue communities have continued to suffer frequent and deadly herder attacks, with several local government areas—including Guma, Makurdi and Logo—experiencing persistent violence.

In June, over 200 people were reportedly killed in Yelwata, Guma LGA, prompting nationwide outrage and a visit to the state by President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries. Despite presidential directives, the killings have yet to abate.
