All Ijaws must rise above the sit-down-look mode and begin to think Ijaw.


Recently, I came across a post in a Yoruba nostalgia group — most likely created by Igbos — claiming that Ijaw is more of a political franchise than a culturally related ethnic group.


Our people responded with fire, defending our identity back to back. Yet, one truth stands: there are Ijaws everywhere, but many only speak up when our identity is threatened.


Let’s be real — even the Igbos don’t fully understand themselves linguistically.
Anambra Igbos don’t understand Ebonyi Igbos.
Abia Igbos don’t understand the Wawa Igbo of Enugu.
They united through a central dialect.


The Yorubas are the same.
Ekiti have no historical root with Oduduwa, yet they accepted it for unity.
Ijebu of Ogun cannot understand Osun Yoruba.
Egun Yoruba cannot understand Ondo Yoruba.
They, too, united through language engineering — just like the central dialect my team and I have already created for the Ijaw Nation.


It’s no doubt that I am well-known across the Ijaw Nation. Yet, Ijaw leaders are still insisting that only Kolokuma should be used — something no other tribe did.
This approach is one of the reasons our language keeps fading.


If it’s about Kolokuma, then I am Kolokuma itself.
My community, Agadagba-Igbedi, the ancestral home of Kolokuma and the Ijaw Nation in general, would have benefited most from it.
My family is the oldest in Igbedi today.
My late father, who passed in September this year, was buried on the same land where the first Ijaw man lived after migrating from the Horus tribe of the Nile, Northern Egypt — 12,874 years ago.


He came down and began what is now known as the Ijaw tribe.
So I say to every Ijaw son and daughter:
If you are Ijaw, defend Ijaw.


Language is power — remember the Tower of Babel story from the Holy Bible.
Our Language Engineering Central Dialect, already created by my team and me, is the way forward.
United we stand, divided we fall.

Ogbia in Bayelsa, and Abua in Rivers as well as Odual Rivers State speak same dialect of Ijaw and they are all Ijaws.

How I wish every sensible citizen should just ignore some stupid post once it comes online. And for the moderators, you guys should always help in sanitising this space, you help in creating disaffection amongst people and upholding ethnic bigotry here.

The Ijaws had been doing these campaign for sometime now. I don't blem them sha it politics. The North started it. In actual sense the Yoruba is the highest ethnic group in Nigeria followed by Hausa and then Igbos, Ibibios, Ijaws, efik Fulani etc.
The Fulani will tell u it Hausa/ Fulani that is majority. Is that not two tribes merged?

The region with the highest number of tribes in Nigeria is the North yet they will merged all of them and call it Hausa/ Fulani . The Ijaws started merging other states outside Ijaws during the time of Jonathan and called it Ijaws, people that cannot speak or understand the Ijaws language oh.

The actual people who speak Ijaws language are in Bayelsa, the rest are just different group who doesn't understand Ijaws that the are merging. Ibibios are being spoken in Akwa Ibom, Cross River and some part of Abia and port-harcourt
