These same questions were on my mind before I read your post.

With their crude and uncivilized method, who wouldn't react that way? They just killed an innocent man; period.

If he is not even a suspect, why was he in a panic to even Jump from the 7th floor, how did he think he will survive.

My own take on this is that the boy most likely is a yahoo boy and EFCC also came for him as a suspect but because of the accident,the whole narratives have changed.
However I still blame the young man,EFCC arrest is not the end of the world,they may end up releasing him,if nothing serious is found on him and even when found guilty,you do the time.
More like,if you cannot do the time don't do the crime.

Bro,your analysis is top notch but I still wonder why some youths are this scared when face with arrest,a similar incident happened sometime ago in a northern state,in a bid to escape arrest,a boy lost his life,meanwhile those caught were released in no distant time after due investigations. Why jumping from a high rising building when your arrest is not a death sentence,even if it is!

This statement from EFCC is exactly why Nigerians don’t take our institutions seriously. Every time young people are harassed, profiled, or brutalized, the story is always the same: “We were just doing our job.” You storm residential areas like armed invaders, break into houses at 2am, terrorize everyone in sight and then when someone panics and tries to flee, you turn around and blame him for “suicidal action.” Let’s be honest, people don’t jump off buildings unless they’re afraid for their lives.

EFCC has built a culture where every youth with a laptop or a car is automatically labeled a criminal. Instead of going after the politicians who have stolen billions from Nigeria since 1960, they prefer to stage dramatic raids in estates because it’s easier and it makes for Instagram content. You cannot keep criminalizing young success in a collapsing economy and then act surprised when your presence causes fear.

“No one with nothing to hide should be afraid”? Please. In this country, innocence has never protected anyone. What people fear is the brutality, the intimidation, the handcuffs first and investigation later. If EFCC wants respect, it must show professionalism, intelligence-led investigations, due process and accountability. Until then, this is just another tragic example of how force without sense continues to destroy young lives in Nigeria.

problem is the way a raid is done. EFCC would have no arrest warrant but will storm residential buildings breaking down doors. It is very natural for people to panic and act irrationally. My estate was in chaos and fear the day they came

The other was Perewrinkle Estate, where an alleged yahoo boy jumped from the fourth floor. Now, in 1004 estate, another jumped from the seventh floor.

How does the EFFC differentiate a yahoo boy from a non-yahoo boy and do they have an arrest warrant for this break-ins that they perform?
