1.) Petrol subsidy
2.) Tertiary education subsidy
3.) Electricity tariff subsidy

and many other subsidies and also increased import tariffs, yet Nigeria is broke and facing one of the worst economic situation ever.



They keep telling Nigerians to be patient and give them more time.


Trump was only sworn in January 2025 while Tinubu was sworn in June 2023.

This was disclosed in a policy brief released by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), titled “Two Years Later: Key Benefits of Subsidy Removal,” and made available to journalists over the weekend in Abuja.

The report, which reviewed the outcomes of the subsidy removal since May 29, 2023, noted that the policy averted a looming economic crisis.

It also enabled the Tinubu administration to clear long-standing financial liabilities, increase capital investments, and support the financial stability of state governments.

The country is mess up already, the alternative in opposition is nothing to write home about too. The only viable option for us is true federalism where each region will embrace new constitution that will align with 21st century reality of modern society.

But here, after removing the subsidy and claiming to have surpassed its revenue target, the Tinubu-led APC regime, instead of paying dividends, is inflicting untold hardship, hunger, and starvation on Nigerians, plundering resources, siphoning funds, and engaging in mindless borrowing to pay defectors into the APC.

By value, I mean what the minimum wage can actually afford in terms of purchasing power.

The reason the Tinubu administration isn’t celebrating the increase in the minimum wage from 30,000 to 70,000 as a major achievement is that it would highlight how poorly the economy has been managed. It will be ian indictment of the government’s performance, given the widespread hardship, rising hunger, and growing poverty.

You can’t remove fuel subsidies, devalue the naira to the point of near worthlessness, and raise the pump price of fuel from below N200 per litre to around 1,000 naira along with the resulting increase in transportation costs, inflation, and food prices and then turn around to boast about giving more money to state governors or claim that they no longer owe salaries. It simply doesn’t make sense.

Rather, it’s simply because it’s no longer fashionable to owe salaries in today’s Nigeria, where the 70,000 naira minimum wage can barely afford a single bag of rice. In contrast, under previous regimes, that a minimum wage could buy at least two bags of rice, with some change left to purchase other essentials. So what is there to owe?

You can’t compare the value of the money governors used to receive before Tinubu grabbed, snatched, and ran away with power to what they receive today. Yes, they are receiving more in naira terms, but the value of that money has depreciated by over 400 percent.

For instance, before Tinubu assumed office, a kilometer of road could be built for less than 200 million naira Today, under his administration, the same kilometer costs about 1 billion and or more, in some cases, as much as 7.5 billion naira per kilometer, as seen in the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project.
