Apart from the mishap of marrying a character like Regina, I expected that rather than go on a social media rant and banter with his estranged wife's camp, someone of his social and political standing would instruct his lawyers or pr team to release a statement that'd address the issue once and for all. A lot of you guys are just parroting Western (European) law and customs, and applying it to others without looking at their unique socio-cultural background. Even in the US, people marry multiple wives or under 18 girls. One even documented his "bigamy" in a series called sister wives.

Nigeria operates multiple laws, there is tradition laws, religious laws and English law. And the Nigerian constitution recognises all three laws, with only a caveat that the English law is superior. Then there are different laws between the north and south. The south use the criminal code, while the north use the Penal code. Sometimes these two laws are at variance with each other.

Now back to this case. First Ned is Muslim. He married under both Muslim law and traditional law. Muslim and traditional law permits polygamy and underage marriage. Please note that the Nigerian constitution recognises both Muslim law and traditional law. So it would be interesting for someone to sue a man and the families engaging in underage marriage ceremony.

As much as I detest Senator Ned for marrying an underage girl, I blame Regina's mother and her family more. They openly came out to deny Regina was 17 at the time people raised concerns. They claimed Regina was 19 in unison, and they participated in the marriage ceremony, along with their whole community. So how can you then blame Ned for marrying an underage girl? Na him born am?

It’s 18. Ned is supposed to be sentenced to life imprisonment. He committed a verified crime in Nigeria by marrying Regina. Why do you think they lied about her age? He knows the law. He lived in the UK and knows or is aware of such laws.

Its statutory rape under British law.

You will be reported to the the solicitors regulation authority. If the parents and the hospital she was born confirms her age as we are in the process of getting her birth certificate.

You might be powerful in Nigeria, but you will get the Ike Ekweremadu treatment when you go to any country abroad.
