A lot of you guys are just parroting Western (European) law and customs, and applying it to others without looking at their unique socio-cultural background. Even in the US, people marry multiple wives or under 18 girls. One even documented his "bigamy" in a series called sister wives.

Nigeria operates multiple laws, there is tradition laws, religious laws and English law. And the Nigerian constitution recognises all three laws, with only a caveat that the English law is superior. Then there are different laws between the north and south. The south use the criminal code, while the north use the Penal code. Sometimes these two laws are at variance with each other.

Now back to this case. First Ned is Muslim. He married under both Muslim law and traditional law. Muslim and traditional law permits polygamy and underage marriage. Please note that the Nigerian constitution recognises both Muslim law and traditional law. So it would be interesting for someone to sue a man and the families engaging in underage marriage ceremony.

As much as I detest Senator Ned for marrying an underage girl, I blame Regina's mother and her family more. They openly came out to deny Regina was 17 at the time people raised concerns. They claimed Regina was 19 in unison, and they participated in the marriage ceremony, along with their whole community. So how can you then blame Ned for marrying an underage girl? Na him born am?
