The buzzword you're using to drive home your point is "miss profile" but the fact is that he wasn't stolen. The coach at the time (Xavi) just didn't rate Nico both as a DM and as a CM and quite rightly so. As we speak, he's not better than Dejong(DM) and Pedri(CM) meaning had he stayed, he'll just be bench piece like them Casado, Bernal and co. Leaving was the best thing that happened to him and his situation is pretty normal in football. Not unique at all.

These are just facts. I mean players like KDB, Salah, Palmer, Eto'o, Guehi, Nico Gonzalez, Hakimi, Pogba, Thiago, Pique, Saliba all had to leave in order to achieve their potential elsewhere. Of course some returned home.

Talk about misprofiling....
1. Nico made his professional debut under Koeman and was not rated as a DM....played as interior along with Busquet.
2. Xavi met Nico and didn't rate him as a DM
3. Loan at Valencia, he wasn't rated as DM as Gulimano was always the preferred choice. He was in and out of the team even as a CM.
4. Porto manager didn't rate him as a DM and had Varela as DM. In fact, in most matches, Nico was not even part of the double pivot and was often played as the AM with Verala paired with another CM(Marko Grujic)

At professional level, Nico has played under 4 different managers and only Pep(his 5th manager) rates him as a DM. Of course, I trust Pep's judgement. However, if/when Rodri returns and back to his best, Nico will most likely play alongside him at CM/interior or benched.

Nico wasn't stolen chief and his situation is not unique at all. Coaches constantly make decisions based on what they feel is best for the team. Some work, some don't. He would've turned to Sergi Samper or Oriol Busquet and other lamasia players had he stayed. Best thing was leaving whether Xavi misprofiled him or not, he had to leave. Even as a DM, he was not gonna start ahead of Dejong at Barca. As an interior, Pedri clears him. He had to go!!!
