Tense Confrontation as Soldiers Block Wike from Entering Disputed Abuja Land A tense confrontation erupted on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, when soldiers prevented the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his team from accessing a disputed parcel of land in the Gaduwa area of Abuja. According to reports, Wike and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) arrived at the site but were stopped by armed military personnel who insisted they were acting on “orders from above.” The standoff quickly escalated, drawing attention as both parties exchanged heated words. A visibly angry Wike confronted the soldiers, questioning their conduct and authority. “You cannot carry a gun to intimidate anybody. I am not one of those that can be intimidated. This is unprofessional—you cannot be threatening a minister like this,” he declared. In response, one of the soldiers firmly stood his ground, telling the minister he was not acting on personal will but on instructions. When Wike asked if he was foolish, the soldier retorted sharply that he was not foolish but simply following orders. The confrontation grew more intense when Wike ordered the officer to “shut up,” but the soldier fired back, saying, “Sir, you can’t shut me up. I am an officer, and I have integrity.” The heated exchange led to further tension, and a brief physical scuffle reportedly broke out between one of Wike’s aides and the uniformed men before the situation was brought under control. The disputed land is said to be linked to a high-ranking military officer, identified in some reports as the former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo (Rtd). Wike insisted that the FCTA had no legal documents showing the land was ever allocated to the military, accusing the officers of acting with impunity. This confrontation adds to a history of strained relations between Wike and certain elements of the Nigerian military. The minister has previously accused Major General Jamil Sarham (Rtd), a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) in Rivers State during the 2019 general elections, of plotting to assassinate him and interfering in the electoral process. It was indeed a fierce exchange — both verbal and physical — between Wike’s men and military personnel. Watch the video for the full confrontation.
