Not commented on this drama. Quite frankly, don't really care. Nigerians are screen writers and directors in it. We facilitate, support and encourage what we all turn around to criticize. Once more showing that the black man cannot evolve a decent society, period. By the way I share in both sides of the Mexican standoff. They both are....were my constituency. If you say the military (man) is wrong to stop a leader in authority from doing his job you maybe right but you will have to think about all the privileges we have collectively decided to bestow on serving and retired military personnel. Have we so soon forgotten what the retirement package to the armed forces service quartet entailed just a few days ago. How are we sure this particular property was not signed off by the previous government. Are we not aware that top retired military personnel still enjoy military protection. Have we questioned that.... If these things do irk us, why don't we walk as civilized people to conduct institutional reforms. I have said it numerous times. We still do not have the military under absolute civilian control. And this is because there is no framework, there are no laws, there are no edicts to draw the lines (red, blue, green lines) and linkages. And it affects how security is run in this country. In other climes military properties are strictly off limits to civilian administration. If the military wants to protect its personnel (both serving and retired) and their properties from the day to day interference of civilian administration it can push for that legislation but until then they have to obey the law of the land, of the FCT. On the other hand it is surprising that the administration of the Federal Capital where it is obvious ranking individuals in government, the military and other works of life live does not have a liaison department for this very reason with perhaps a desk dedicated to the military and other security services, where these kinds of issues can be sorted out. Knowing the hundreds of high ranking military men and women, retired and active who work and reside in the FCT what does it take to have an open channel to the MOD/DHQ. I'm aware all the armed services have estate/property departments. They have a lot of property, a lot of estates. What does it take to work along these channels. You see. Structure, structure, structure. It is everything. The building of institutions that work for the progress of society is a task too hard for the African. We just cannot see beyond individuals we are quick to crown and idolize leaving the workings of society in tatters. |

National security has been damaged many years ago this is just one of d case study, Nigeria is a lawless entity.Everyone wants to flex their useless muscles. If you look at the scene critically both are wrong .Wike being FCT minister and a lawyer will not allow military intimidation let us be frank with ourselves, why would a military won't follow the due process or law of the land ,but result to using force or coercion to obtain or activate his mission. Power tussles why million Nigerians are dying daily in face evil oppressors.Nigeria is edging towards destruction if something is not done quickly. |

Newsgeek24:Now I am certain there's something on the training of the military in Nigeria that undermines login and discipline. Firstly , Wike is the minister of of FCT and all ministers are an extension of the president of Nigeria. Secondly, Wike is carrying out his constitutional mandate while the military was impeding his work. 3 Military cannot resort to self help, yes not even the chief of army staff can build his property without following laid down procedure as laid down by government 4. The laziest and most undisciplined army of thrvetod has too much ego and no respect for civilian authority. 5 the military should apologise to Wike immediately. And go back to their barracks. |

Lezzlie:But tomorrow when he is going to Rivers state by what authority does he have to commandeer a platoon of soldiers as his personal protection detail. The problem is that we are often quick to clutch at straws. The last incident is the only one we remember. We ignore the other failings that have contributed to it. Where are the laws, where are the boundaries, what are the red lines. It is the failure of organization in government. It is the adhoc way, the lawlessness in society to which they ALL subscribe that turns around to bite them. In any other society there will be no conflict between security men working for the same government. See what Trump is facing while attempting to put troops on ground in major US cities against crime and illegal immigration. All the conflicting IS ABOUT THE LAW. What he can do and what he cannot do. There you don't see standoffs or shootouts between security or military at any level despite the fact that they have hundreds of different law enforcement agencies. Structure, structure, structure, law,.law, law. |

Reference:I fail to see the correlation between Wike using army as security when traveling and an army personnel taking laws into his own hands and obstructing a legitimate government work. You're sounding political. This is just common sense a d the army is undisciplined and unruly. |

Jagabanfromcali:What rank does the Minister of the federation have? Lol. How do you people even make it past secondary schools? I thought I won't comment on this issue, but reading comments from folks like this turn my stomach. Under which chain of command does Wike fall, that he should order a soldier? |

If the law and order breaks down, the military are zero, that is what is happening in bokoharam areas, if everybody carries gun nothing special about military profession. Wike is on point. |

being:Have you by chance seen the Army code of conduct ? Even Trump cannot insult a US Naval officer in uniform, never. Wike is just an appointed govt official and has no constitutional right to insult a ranked military officer in uniform, the soldier is a gentleman because my late uncle in that position would have slapped Wike the moment he called him a fool. Why Wike there with crowed of govt officials, DSS and the press ? Because he wanted to show off as usual but it backfired. |

misreal:Very valid. However, two things irked me. The arrogance of the said minister and the unprofessionalism of both armed forces present there. I don't think I will ever see the US army and their police force exhibit such crass behaviour towards each other. Lastly, the tall lanky soldier carried himself very well while engaging the minister. I'm sick of this country. |

The statement by buratai is shameful,to say the least. The minister in charge of FCT, along with the senior staff officials of his ministry, can be prevented in accessing the land he has been appointed to do,by a retired chief of naval staff, through his subordinate,a junior officer, and the hatred for wike is making people applaud the action? As far as FCT is concern as it is now, only the president can stop wike ,but not in the manner done by the retired naval chief. The court can also stop wike, but at this premature stage. This is impunity of the highest level and assault on the authority of the president. |

Newsgeek24:I watched the 3 FULL videos on that illegal land construction site encounter. This Gen. Buratai (rtd) has NO right to criticize Wike alone because he is encouraging indiscipline. Lt. Yerima is as guilty for triggering Wike to get angry with his comments and we know Wike has anger issues if he gets triggered. That young Lt. Yerima was also rude with his initial comments and indiscipline BUT towards the end of his encounter with Wike, he became flustered as can be seen in the video. The young Naval officer initially said something which triggered Nyesom Wike who got angry and then called him a f**l. Instead of de-escalating the situation he kept on replying to Wike's comments which was unwise of the young Lt. Yerima who is supposedly from Kaduna State. A lot of those criticizing Nyesom Wike alone instead of both of them either did NOT watch the video fully or are simply haters of Wike who I have NEVER been a fan of BUT truth must be told because he has his good side and negative side. That's the way I'm wired to ALWAYS look at different perspectives. |

Lezzlie:That is the point. People chose what to see, a perspective that suits them at the point of expediency. But you cannot build a country of laws that way. If you want the military out of your lives then like other societies draw boundaries. Do you see the military on the streets of other societies doing PPS, doing police work, doing vigilante... What are the laws concerning the military owning property. What are the laws about senior military men and post service privileges. These are the questions to be answered. Because authority is conferred on the basis of the law, not grandstanding. And these laws should be clear to everyone, even the man on the street. The average American knows where the average military man's authority begins and ends. Do you know concerning yours. Is it not worrying to you the deaths and destruction caused by inter security clashes on a regular basis for decades now. Why hasn't these issues been resolved by the law. No one cares till another happens. And here you are insinuating politics because of what is happening today, once again because of the individuals involved. PS. I am very, very grateful and respectful of the composure of all the armed personnel involved in the incident yesterday. Their restraint saved the day and prevented what could easily have become something else, operating a system that is uncertain at best and for leaders on both sides that are absolutely irresponsible. It was reckless to put those serving under them in unnecessary harms way when they could have so easily sorted out this matter in accordance with the law. |
