Nigeria Leapfrogs 15 Places On FX Access, Now 4th In Africa by NaijaphiliaBlog(op): 9:00pm On Nov 12, 2025
Nigeria has recorded its most solid improvement in foreign exchange (FX) accessibility in years, jumping 15 spots to 4th position among African economies where international investors can most easily deploy and repatriate capital.

This is according to the ABSA Africa Financial Markets Index 2025, which places Nigeria just behind South Africa, Madagascar, and Mauritius.

Now in its 9th year, the Absa Africa Financial Markets Index assesses market depth, transparency, and sustainability. The 2025 Index benchmarked 29 economies, representing 80% of Africa’s GDP.

According to the 2025 Index, the upsurge in Nigeria’s performance can be attributed to broad FX market reforms by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). These include:

* Unifying the multiple FX exchange windows.
* Clearing the backlog of US$7 billion FX obligations.
* Easing the repatriation of investor capital.
* Steady rise in the country’s FX reserves.

The government seem to be getting it right in terms of economy. But what of security?

All these economic gains will be short-lived in the face of rising and unchecked insecurity. Kogi State roads are now hotbeds for banditry and kidnapping.

First time in a very long time I am reading something that pleases the heart from this country'. Nigeria has been first in the worst things one can ever imagined in the past 10 years.
So the question will be, how did we get this bad. The answer is APC.

APC knew Jonathan's plan to remove fuel subsidy was good and also many other planned policies like SURE-P but they deceived Nigerians, gaslight the then government, brought insecurity to the nation and gave us an ineffective ruler in the person President Buhari. They were basically playing chess with lives of Nigerians.

They cannot stand now to say, they have improved the indices. The question I will asked them is from what Base have they improved the living standard? Is it from the time of Obasanjo, Yar'Adua or Jonathan?

Watch out and see them go to town, singing sonorously with this ABSA report. While, standard of living still remains at all time lowest.

Were we the first in 2015 for this ranking, just as our economy was, before Tinubu scammed us into replacing PDP privatisation and deregulation prosperity of 16 years with APC extreme poverty shege that was fraudulently sold as positive change huh

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

The builders of Lagos are gradually turning things around in Nigeria. Our economy outlook will be more positive next year when the new tax laws take effect. This is a real economy and not a container economy so Peter Obi can't comprehend.

The reason is quite simple really. Tinubu and APC are very corrupt and more corrupt than their opponents in PDP.

Oshiomhole’s Assembly of Past Criminals, APC is filled with propagandist liars who pretend to be redeemed saints.

socialmediaman:
The 2018 Rating by Transparency International placed Nigeria at 148th position out of 180 countries. Nigeria was improving over the years under the previous government, until Buhari got elected as president, things became worse.

There is a difference between fact and fiction. We need to face facts, Buhari is worse than GEJ when it comes to fighting corruption, at least that’s what the facts prove.

Most of us believed there was corruption under Goodluck Jonathan’s Government. I agree with those who did, there was corruption, but not as bad as it is today under Mohammadu Buhari.

In 2012, Nigeria was placed at 139th position, In 2014, Nigeria gained 3 steps and was placed at 136th position. Under Buhari, Nigeria has lost many positions down to 148th.

There’s no further proof needed that corruption has worsened under Buhari’s government compared to previous years.

they seem not getting it right in security simply because their efforts are being sabotaged by some elements in a part of the country who sees insecurity as business and untouchable.

1.GEJ should have told buhari, tinubu, and company in 2012 to go and sit down, and remove the subsidy anyway. That's the mark of a bold leader. (Tinubu anyway had karma come to face him in 2023...when he realized that things were really bad).

After all, the buck in 2012 stopped at GEJ table.

Also, lol...Nigerians have been opposed to subsidy removal for years. Back in 1992, and even in 2005, anytime subsidy removal was proposed, people always violently said no.2012 was not an anomaly. Even now, most nigerians are opposed, but government is pressing on because they know that IMF won;t loan them any more money if they keep subsidy, and the subsidy was also tending towards eating almost all our annual budgets....

Not all Nigerians were decieved....personally, I was not a GEJ or PDP or even APC and tinubu supporter back then, and in 2011/12, Idid some reading, and realized why subsidy was bad, and what past governments had been trying to tell us up to that point.

2.Times were hard under Obasanjo, Yaradua and GEJ, even with rises in oil prices...most people were suffering and complaining of price increases back then. Times never change in nigeria.
