LAGESC Launches Massive Clearance of Beggars and Street Occupants in Ketu-Alapere
Lagos.

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps LAGESCOfficial today commenced a clearance operation at Ketu-Alapere, removing beggars and other individuals referred to as constituting nuisance along the road median.

According to the report, the exercise is part of the ongoing efforts to maintain order, ensure free flow of traffic, and keep the public spaces clean and safe for all.

According to Honorable Wahab the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State who posted the video on his official X handle all the individuals arrested will be profiled and handed over to the appropriate authorities for necessary actions.

You cant just pick beggars off the road without proper alternative things to do for them. They all have states, they can move there or look for menial job

Instead of displacing these individuals, a more sustainable solution would be to proactively engage and rehabilitate them.

A more effective approach would be to first gather and profile them to understand their specific situations. Following this, the government could organize a seminar or skills acquisition program, identifying those with a willingness to work.

The goal would be to channel them into a government-owned enterprise or cooperative. This organization could specialize in various handworks like welding, furniture making, carpentry, and other trades. The state could then employ these newly skilled individuals to work on government projects and sites.

Simply chasing them away without providing an alternative is not a solution. Without skills or opportunity, they are likely to return to the streets. This method offers a real path to productivity and cleans up the environment in a lasting, humane way.

I support this move, some of these beggars takeover road medians, bridges and waling path meant for pedestrians. Taking them out of the street is a right move.

The government should also clear the thugs and miscreants at major bus stops like Oshodi, Obalende, CMS,etc. They pose danger to law abiding citizens.

Send them back to the north

Agberos/NURTW are more of a threat to people than these guys they are picking up

Send them to govt farms to work or learn a trade and then be employable. These beggars remet the money they make to an alfa in mosques. Some also work as informants
