thisisit:There were Agbero then, they were restricted to the Motor Parks and not on every Road as you have it now. When Festac was hosted in '77, I was saw Agberos at Jankara Motor Park, Idumota Motor Park and Iddo Motor Park. The interesting thing is the Yorubas were the Agberos at Jankara and Idumota Park while the one at Iddo Motor Park were Igbo people. If in doubt you can ask the elderly people on Nairaland. |

Racoon:1. You answered the bigot well 2. However UK and USA have nice cities because they pay the kind of tax that if any Nigerian LGA, state or even federal institute in this country, there be rumble For.example many cities in the UK , residents ( except students and minors for obvious reasons) pay council taxes from 180-200 pounds a month,or 340000-410000 naira monthly. That way they can pay for the upkeep of such places. Now imagine festac residents being asked to pay that amount of money. Or any Nigerian city or any part of Lagos.? Even under the regime of your beloved GEJ Dem no go gree. Poverty will be the refrain |
| Re: Beautiful Pictures Of Life In Festac Town During Its Early Stage by nairalanda1(m): 10:13am On Nov 13, 2025 |
muyico:No ,Nigerians cannot afford to pay for good maintenance and upkeep of houses and streets Like now, do you pay your city taxes in the range of 300000-400000 monthly so that your city can afford road maintenance, street light maintenance, water supply maintenance even developing a good transport and other city infrastructure? You go tell me that Nigerians are on minimum wage. So we get what we pay for. Nothing wey dey look nice, somebody dey pay for am. |

MEGAWATCH:We were talking about festac being messed up as early as 1991. Plus Lagos was an awful slumyard as early as the 1960s. Shey we go blame Gowon for not making Lagos more beautiful then.( For the record, tinubu did not do anything better) The problem is paying for good maintenance services. If you don't pay for good maintenance, things will get messed up. If a government tells Nigerians to pay city tax of even 10000 monthly, person go say poverty. Also festac houses were allocated. That meant giving housing to people who could not afford to keep them up. See the wahala.? Free housing does not mean that the person getting it has the kudi to keep it up |

PepeXKermit:I am a Lagosian, my family owns a house in Lagos, even though I am not in Nigeria. What I wrote is totally correct cos y'all focus too much on Lagos and you all forget that your state government is receiving billions in allocations every year. Maybe if we all held our governors accountable, Naija would be a better place instead of complaining bitterly about another person's state? 🤷🏽♂️ |
| Re: Beautiful Pictures Of Life In Festac Town During Its Early Stage by cyberbro: 10:21am On Nov 13, 2025 |
Ushame:It is no longer the FCT, so focus on your home state or Abuja. We're making those other state governors loot in peace while we all focus on Lagos, you self reason am... Other states are just collecting and pocketing, meanwhile na Lagos dey carry load pass. Let's be fair na! |

The environment will always adjust to the state of mind of the people living in it. If you look through this lens, you can easily tell the collective state of mind of the people in any area you visit. CodeTemplarr: |

MEGAWATCH:Festac is under FG control and it's the influx of the usual suspects through their domination of federal civil service that destroyed Festac. If Festac was under the Lagos state government it would have been well managed |

Kaczynski:like the Portuguese developed or built it, in right senses did the Portuguese build festac town? at the least learn to be reasonable at time. PepeXKermit:you right here but it doesn't take away the fact that Lagos has its own indigenous people like the Àwórì's, Ègùn people, both spreading towards the boarder and the Ìjèbú's. All this were the indigenous settlers pre-colonial, colonial era before the iragbiji tax lord and the likes came in to recolonize Lagos. |
