US Lawmaker: "Nigeria Should Partner With America To Protect Christians; Trump Is Very Serious"
November 8, 2025
NEWS

A member of the United States Congress, Riley Moore, has again warned the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government not to underestimate President Donald Trump’s determination to intervene in the ongoing killings of Christians across Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview posted on Saturday, Moore said Trump was “very serious” about ending what he described as the “slaughter of Christians” in Nigeria, stressing that the U.S. government was already drawing up possible military and diplomatic options.

“I have said this multiple times — do not test this president’s resolve. He is very serious about this,” Moore declared.

He made the remarks following a New York Times report titled “U.S. military draws up Nigeria plans with limited options to quell violence”, which revealed that the Pentagon was considering potential strategies to address the worsening insecurity in Nigeria but warned that American forces may have limited capacity to end the decades-long insurgency.

Moore urged the Nigerian government to take proactive steps by cooperating with the U.S. on security matters rather than waiting for external pressure.

“This is an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen and deepen their relationship with the United States. We could do some enhanced partnership capacity building with them to counter this terrorist threat that is spreading across their country,” he said.

He added: “I’m asking Nigeria — do the right thing here. Partner with the United States. Help us protect the Christians in your country, and we will help you. This doesn’t have to be all sticks; it can also be carrots.”

However, the Congressman hinted that “kinetic military options” remained on the table if diplomatic engagements failed, emphasising that Trump would not hesitate to act decisively.

“The president has made it very clear he will consider these kinetic military options,” Moore warned.

The remarks come amid rising international concern over growing insecurity, especially attacks by groups and bandits targeting rural Christian communities across northern and central Nigeria.

Two Fridays ago, President Trump announced that, in response to claims of genocide against Christians in Nigeria, he had redesignated the country as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

He made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, writing: “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN’ — But that is the least of it,” he wrote.

He went on to say the U.S. may conduct a military operation in the country if "killings of Christians" continue.

Bro in warfare surprise is very important. You have to strike your enemy when they least expect it. Not when they are out there waiting for you.

The man has announced that they will strike. He described the nature of the attack but did not say when....

Planning will be underway for the best time to strike to achieve the desired result.

I kind of suspect when the best time will be.
And have coded it "Red-hand".

It will be messy and bloody.

Nigeria Is A Disgrace; It's Genocide And I'm Really Angry – President Trump Insists
November 22, 2025
NEWS

The United States President, Donald Trump, has again voiced strong criticism of the Nigerian government over what he described as the “genocide” of Christians in the country.

Speaking Friday on a conservative radio programme — remarks later highlighted by Fox News, which captured the exchange — Trump claimed that thousands of Christians were being killed in Nigeria and accused the government of failing to curb extremist violence.

The US President reiterated his administration’s earlier designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious persecution, saying Washington may take further action if the situation does not improve.

“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” Trump said during the interview. “They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it.”

He warned that the US could cut off aid to Nigeria, citing American financial support to the country.

“We give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping,” he added.

Trump also repeated his threat of possible military intervention against Islamist militant groups if the Nigerian government “does not do more” to protect Christian communities.

SaharaReporters had reported on Friday that the United States War Department said it was working closely with the Nigerian government to end what it describes as "jihadists terrorists” attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the Secretary of the War Department, who stated on X: "Yesterday, I met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor and his team to discuss the horrific violence against Christians in their country."

"Under @POTUS leadership, DOW is working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists," he posted on Friday.

The statement followed a meeting on Wednesday between Congressman Riley M. Moore and a delegation of senior Nigerian government officials led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu during their visit to Washington, D.C.

Members of the delegation included Ribadu; Her Excellency Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun; Attorney General of the Federation Chief Lateef Olasunkami Fagbemi, SAN; Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede; Chief of Defence Intelligence Lt. Gen. EAP Undiendeye; Special Adviser to ONSA Idayat Hassan; Director of Foreign Relations, ONSA, Ambassador Ibrahim Babani; Acting CDA, Embassy of Nigeria, Ambassador Nuru Biu; and Paul Alabi of the Embassy’s Political and Economic Section.

According to the statement, the meeting “allowed for a frank, honest, and productive discussion about the ongoing persecution of Christians and ongoing terrorist threats in Nigeria and opportunities for strengthened cooperation and coordination between the United States and Nigeria to end the bloodshed.”

It added that the Nigerian delegation “shared their government’s challenges and concerns regarding counterterrorism, security assistance, protection of vulnerable communities, and ongoing issues involving violence across Nigeria.”

The release noted that Congressman Moore “clearly stated that the United States stands ready to coordinate and cooperate with Nigeria,” adding that “as President Trump made abundantly clear, the United States will not tolerate continued violence against Christians or other forms of religious persecution.”

It further stressed that “President Trump does not make idle threats.”

It added that Moore “will continue monitoring new developments and pushing the Nigerian government to accept the open hand of cooperation to stop the ongoing persecution and violence against Christians and combat the threat terrorist groups pose to the Nigerian population.”

Moore also issued a detailed statement after the meeting.

“Today, I had a frank, honest, and productive discussion with senior members of the Nigerian government regarding the horrific violence and persecution Christians face and the ongoing threat terrorism poses across Nigeria,” he said.

EXCLUSIVE: Pressure Mounts On Tinubu To Sack Matawalle As U.S. Insists On Defence Ministers’ Removal Before Security Collaboration
December 1, 2025
NEWS
EXCLUSIVE

There is growing pressure on President Bola Tinubu to also remove Bello Matawalle as Minister of State for Defence following the ‘resignation’ of Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar as Minister of Defence.

SaharaReporters learned that the United States requested the removal of both Badaru Abubakar and Matawalle before it would engage in any collaboration with Nigeria on combating terrorism and banditry.

“There is pressure on Tinubu to remove Matawalle as well,” a top government source said. “We were told the US insisted that Badaru and Matawalle be replaced before any cooperation with Nigeria could proceed.”

Earlier on Monday evening, SaharaReporters reported that Badaru Abubakar resigned as Nigeria’s Defence Minister and is set to be replaced by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, according to top government sources.

Musa met with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja earlier on Monday. This marked his first public meeting with the President since Tinubu retired him on October 24, 2025.

Sources told SaharaReporters that during the meeting, President Tinubu informed Musa that he would “succeed Badaru as Defence Minister”.

In a letter dated December 1, sent to President Bola Tinubu, Abubakar said he was quitting on health grounds, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said in a statement on Monday.

“President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Abubakar for his services to the nation,” the statement said.

“President Tinubu will likely inform the Senate of Badaru's successor later this week.”

Badaru Abubakar, 63, was a two-term governor of Jigawa state from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed as a minister on August 21, 2023, by President Tinubu.

Recently, Nigeria was redesignated by the U.S. as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC) over allegations of widespread Christian persecution.

In response, Nigeria dispatched a high-level delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to Washington, where both sides agreed to collaborate through joint mechanisms to address insecurity and religious freedom concerns.

The designation was based on claims of “particularly severe violations of religious freedom”, with US officials and advocacy groups alleging mass killings of Christians by extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP.

Advocacy coalitions argued that Nigeria records more Christian deaths due to targeted violence than any other country combined, framing the situation as a form of genocide.

The move reignited tensions, as Nigeria had previously been placed on the CPC list in 2020 but removed in 2021. Nigerian officials, including President Bola Tinubu, rejected the genocide characterization, insisting it misrepresented Nigeria’s reality.

U.S. House Committee Raises Alarm, Says Nigeria Becoming “One Of The Most Dangerous Places On Earth To Follow Christ”
December 7, 2025
NEWS

The United States House Appropriations Committee has raised fresh alarm over what it described as the rapidly deteriorating situation for Christians in Nigeria, warning that the country is becoming “one of the most dangerous places on Earth to follow Christ.”

The Committee made the remarks in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday night, signalling renewed legislative pressure on the White House to confront what American lawmakers increasingly refer to as an emerging Christian genocide in Nigeria.

In its post, the Committee stated, “Nigeria is rapidly becoming one of the most dangerous places on Earth to follow Christ, and as Robert Aderholt made clear in a roundtable this past week, we can’t ignore this crisis.

“Appropriators will continue to defend liberty and uphold religious freedom across the globe.”

Rep. Robert Aderholt, a senior member of the House and an influential voice on religious freedom issues, echoed the concerns, emphasising that Washington must take firmer steps to address ongoing violence against Christian communities in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

“We must stand firmly with Nigeria’s Christian communities and all persecuted believers worldwide, and I commend our collaborative efforts to provide the President with the information needed to confront this growing tragedy,” Aderholt said.

Appropriate

Nigeria has come under growing international scrutiny in recent years over widespread violence linked to banditry, terrorism, and communal conflicts, much of which disproportionately affects Christian communities in the Middle Belt and northern states.

Attacks by extremist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have persisted for over a decade, while banditry, armed herder–farmer clashes and mass kidnappings have increasingly targeted rural Christian settlements.

The U.S. has repeatedly accused Nigerian authorities of failing to adequately protect vulnerable communities, with some lawmakers going as far as describing the situation as “religious cleansing.”

Although the Nigerian government has consistently rejected allegations of genocide, arguing that the violence is driven by criminality and not religious persecution, Western legislative bodies continue to raise concerns about patterns of targeted attacks.

The U.S. State Department had previously listed Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) for religious freedom violations in 2020, only to remove it a year later, a decision that drew sharp criticism from American legislators, including Rep. Aderholt.

For months, several congressional committees have held hearings and roundtable discussions, which led to the President Donald Trump administration reinstating Nigeria on the CPC list and threats of stronger measures, including possible military actions against terrorists in Nigeria.

With the latest statement, the House Appropriations Committee signals that the issue may now influence budgetary and foreign policy decisions in Washington.

The Committee also hinted at continued efforts to pressure the White House into taking a more assertive stance.

For many advocacy groups monitoring religious violence worldwide, the Committee’s declaration marks yet another sign that Nigeria’s security crisis, long treated as an internal issue, is fast becoming a focal point of international legislative concern.

Over 600,000 Christians In Benue Alone Now Living In IDP Camps — US Congressman Raises Alarm During Visit
December 10, 2025
NEWS

More than 600,000 displaced Christians are sheltering in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Benue State, according to a grim account shared by United States Congressman, Riley M. Moore following a visit to the region.

Moore, a member of the US House of Representatives, representing West Virginia's 2nd District, said he met with “dozens of Christians who were driven from their homes and subjected to horrific violence."

He described their testimonies as horrible, adding that they would remain with him “for the rest of my life.”

In a series of posts on his official X handle, Moore recounted multiple cases of extreme brutality allegedly carried out during attacks on villages.

According to him, one woman was forced to watch as armed assailants killed her husband and five children before she narrowly escaped with her unborn baby.

Another survivor, he said, had her family murdered in front of her, after which attackers “ripped her baby from her womb.”

Moore also described meeting a man whose family was “hacked to death” before his own arm was permanently mangled in the assault.

“These Christians should be able to live in their ancestral homeland without fear,” Moore wrote, condemning what he described as “genocidal violence” targeting rural Christian communities.

https://x.com/i/status/1998576724003475725

He warned that the scale of displacement in Benue alone signals a deepening humanitarian crisis and called for greater international attention to the plight of survivors now living in crowded, under-resourced IDP camps.

The congressman also shared photographs from his visit, showing victims of the violence and the conditions inside the camps.

Authorities in Nigeria and international rights groups have long documented recurrent attacks on farming communities across the Middle Belt, though casualty figures and the identity of perpetrators often remain contested.

Moore’s account adds to growing calls from foreign lawmakers, humanitarian advocates, and local leaders for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable populations and address the root causes of the violence.

U.S. Vows To Protect Religious Freedom In Nigeria Following American Lawmakers’ Visit To Benue IDP Camps
December 10, 2025
NEWS

The United States government has pledged to take action to protect religious freedom in Nigeria.

The stance was highlighted on Wednesday by the House Committee on Appropriations through its official X handle, commenting on a post by Congressman Riley Moore, who visited Benue State to meet Christians in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp affected by horrific violence.

While in Benue, U.S. lawmaker Riley Moore met with dozens of Christians who had been forced from their homes and subjected to horrific violence, now living in IDP camps.

He described their accounts as harrowing experiences that will stay with him for the rest of his life.

"One woman was forced to watch as they killed her husband and five children. She, and her unborn child, barely escaped. Another woman’s family was murdered in front of her and her baby was ripped from her womb," Moore wrote on X.

"One man’s family was hacked to death in front of his eyes and his armed was permanently mangled. There are more than 600,000 Christians in IDP camps in Benue State alone. "

"These Christians should be able to live in their ancestral homeland without fear of genocidal Fulani," he added.

Responding to his post on Wednesday, the United States House Committee on Appropriations wrote on its official X handle, "America will not look away as innocent lives are stolen. Directed by @POTUS, Appropriators led an on-the-ground mission to inform a report on Christian persecution in Nigeria and guide policy recommendations.

“Religious freedom and atrocity response are central to our NSRP bill."

On Monday, SaharaReporters reported that Congressman Moore expressed renewed concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, cautioning that significant efforts were still needed to curb terrorism and deadly attacks, particularly in the North-East and Middle Belt.

In a statement posted on X, Moore said he met with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, where they discussed the escalating wave of terrorism and ongoing killings.

He noted that the security challenges are a pressing concern for both U.S. President Donald Trump and himself.

According to Moore, the delegation engaged Nigerian officials on specific measures that, if fully implemented, could help stabilise the country.

“There were concrete steps and actions discussed at length, that if fully executed, I believe will enhance security across the country for all Nigerians, disrupt and destroy terrorist organisations in the northeast and stop the killing of Christians (a specific concern for @POTUS and me) – particularly in the Middle Belt of the country,” he wrote.

While acknowledging initial progress, Moore maintained that Nigeria’s security challenges remain far from resolved.

"There is much work still to be done, but things are moving in the right direction. I look forward to the next steps with the Nigerian government and the continued open dialogue," he added.

He ended his message with a blessing to Nigerians, saying, “Peace be with you all. God bless the great people of Nigeria."
