Is it also the duty of soldiers to be at polling booths during elections?

Wike must go!
Wike has already gone (one way or another) it is just a matter of time!

You don't understand the concept of "Once a general, always a general"
Only in Nigeria does it mean an ex-general can still command.
It simply means that a person retains the mindset, skills, and identity of a general, even after leaving active military service, nothing more

Tell them bra...if Yerima is so gallant and brave why is he hiding from Boko Haram, inside a cushy assignment arranged by his father in connivance with former CNS...

Yerima's assignment/posting is not random it was arranged to make life soft for him. He is no hero!

You have a point. Nigeria always overdo things.
Someone has retired from military and you still give them an army of soldiers. Compare US and Nigeria (of 70K minimum wage fame) below

I'm flummoxed by all the accolades the yerima officer is getting.

Even though wike acted like a tout, still doesn't make the officer a hero as he's guarding a land owned by a private individual, which is not the duty of a soldier.

If he was carrying out a duty required of a soldier, then it's a different thing. Rather, he was carrying out a boy boy errand and not serving his country.
Private individual? you are calling a chief of Navy staff a private individual? are you alright?

All the things listed and in comparison with the US government is what I alluded to in my post about this matter in the first place.

Now, how did we get to this point and how did the US for example get to theirs. Why the great disparity in compensations to public servants despite the gaping disparity in economic fortunes.

Well the answer is simple. The people. The nature of the people. The mindset of the people. How they perceive these things.

If the people are feudal in nature, that is they see those that step up to or ascend to leadership positions as superior beings and simultaneously look down on themselves as inferior beings then authority cannot be questioned.

This nature is prevalent in Africa, masking as tradition where age, status, education or other personal positions are perceived to convey respect and compensations. That is the essence of the clash between the Minister and the soldier in all the wordings and deeds.

But if you live in the west where mindsets are predominantly republican, independent and free everything is questioned and respect and compensations are bestowed purely according to performance.

So in the west you find politicians and public servants earn middle class wages and entitlements that only mirror their responsibilities, no more. For example. The President of the US is given an armoured limousine and a flying fortress of a presidential jet not because the country and the people want him pimped or lavishly comfortable, but because they want him safe from harm to do the work. Anything more he pays from his own pocket.

So when you see a retired military commander in these parts 'command' so much resources to himself after retirement and his output is ended, when you hear of a state governor who has spent just a four year term get mind boggling compensations for life, rather ask, where are the people, the citizens who pay for these things and why are they not bothered that their resources are practically being wasted while they remain in the grip of poverty. How do they allow these things slide.

My brother, the thing is truly like the eighth wonder of the world. You'd expect the people will be on the street rioting over things like this, but you don't hear kpim. Nigerian lawmakers are about the highest paid in the world, yet at that same time same Nigeria had minimum wage of 30K!!
Look at the RETIREMENT package approved for generals, yet NO ONE has stood up to say it is beyond ridículous, it is GROTESQUE!!!

The problem with u guys is u don't know how the military works and what their work consists off. Duty guard is a very important work in the military..

it's like say the soldiers at the guard post of tinubus House or the army barracks are not doing military work.

How is he not serving his country? Do you just which to type anything that comes from your head? Do you know the military ethics and chain of command to draw that conclusion?

Wike keeps going low everyday. It is only in Nigeria where you can find political rulers sounding like agberos, touts, drug barons and certificate forgers.
And only in Nigeria that you find officer guarding private property as well

Bitting innocent citizens
And wearing uniforms on the street as if you are in war

Also when you are on camo
They see you is to naked you on street
Only in Nigeria and Africa

Because most of you take side
When something happens without saying the truth

Stop sounding garrulous and referencing the land private property. It belongs to a General and who happens to be his superior and it's his duty to guide his superior as well as his family and property. And stop talking anyhow if you be Wike boy!

Your problem is education, firstly that young mam is a Naval officer no a soldier, secondly the said land belongs to his boss,a Naval officer, equivalent of the rank of a major general, so the land is not a thing of illegal,f he was a civilian Wike for send am to prison ASAP, finally the duty is not illegal, because he was there on the order if his boss, and that's how the military roll. Next time read and
understand before disgracing yourself like your friend Wike.

Meanwhile, as he/the military put that effort to stop wike from landgrabbing/demolishing their building or land in Abuja, should also put the same effort in combating insecurity/ bokoharam in Nigeria
Why won't you or Wike children enlist in the military to go and fight boko boys?
