Sadly most paid sick leave that people are entitled to take, and they take they are not actually sick, what changed it for him was him spotted working somewhere else

I know some of our lecturers who were teaching in LASU and UNILAG without any qualms.

The issue here is not doing two or three jobs but fraud. You can't be working for another employer while you are on a sick leave and collecting full salary too.

That's not fair, no matter the case, he worked he should be paid, he's not a slave, if he's in Nigeria he'll be celebrated, but everyone complains and japa only to be humiliated

This is not Oyinbo issue óò.
It is an offence anywhere in the world. It is a breach of trust. Your organisation gave you sick leave and still paying you. However, you are still jumping shifts in another 2 differents coys.

From this write up, he was using his sick leave from his original employer because when you get laid off, your accrued sick leave wont be paid, so he decided to use it.

The full payment was prolly from his sick leave. If he hadn't got any sick leave left, he would have had to go on a leave without pay.

This shouldn't be a jailable offence.

He must have revealed his action to another person (Prolly another Nigerian) that ended up ratting him out.

He told his employer that he was unfit to work.
Yet went to another hospital for night shift.
That's gross misconduct of profession
Health fraud

Maybe he thought he was in Africa, and Nigeria even as a student or new immigrants there is maximum hours of job you can do in a week if you exceed these hours can cost you deportation

These are things they do commonly in naija and no issues are raised. Despite all the hype there are things you easily do here that you can't get away with in oyibo land.

Do not comment when you do not understand the context. Over here, when you are sick you are not supposed to come to work. Worst of all you are not supposed to go work for another person. Because it means you will be paid twice. That is the fraud. Infact did you read that his employer had to get another doctor to do his work? They likely paid more for that. So it means NHS (govt) has lost 2x or 3x its money.

These your comment, is reason why Nigeria is where it is. We want to cut corners and make fool of others.

Over there you get paid your salary while on sick leave. So if you are collecting salary for sick leave & still working at another place & collecting salary, its fraud, But I am surprised they jailed him, over here, they will just fire you and move on

Clear cut case of fraud by a person in a trusted position. I doubt local investigators would have let it go due to the gravity of the offence (they said the defrauded money coud have gone towrds patient care) .UK would usually impose custodial sentence to act as a deterrent. From the write up, he pleaded guilty which should have being considered in the sentencing already. UK system is a bit different from the US plea deal arrangements.

It's a good thing such a doctor has been convicted. How do you trust him with people's lives if he's after his own financial benefit fraudulently

Its cheating.. he is been paid while on sick leave in hospital A .and goes to hospital.b to be working due to the free time he has now gotten under the pretence of being sick.

it's the fact that he lied that he was unfit to discharge his duty in his place of primary assignment, and his employers had to pay other locum doctors to fill that gap: His dishonesty is a breach of trust but also cost them money ( between 2018-2021)
