Awo's legacies cannot be denied or rubbished by anyone. I am from Edo,that's old Bendel state and we benefited from the UPN education package. Awon stood for children's right to be educated free,by the wealth of the land for the people.
To my understanding,the only grouse the easterners have with him was the role he played in advising the Nigeria forces to shut up border to block supplies...that's quite understandable..

Do you mean, there was no one in our military forces in 1966, who is aware that blockade is a legitimate and effective strategy of warfare? They all needed (about 6000 of them) for Awo - a civillian, to come up with this masterplan!

Anything wrong in the eastern region is blamed on Awo - if there's no rainfall, blame Awo, if there's too much rain, blame Awo. A typical example is the 1951 regional election in the western region and Zik , an unabashed enemy of yhr yorubas wanted to become Leader of Govt. in yorubaland. When zik lost, he and his folks blames Awo to this day, saying he, Awo is a tribalist
