In 1956, about 70 years ago, Queen Elizabeth II visited Nigeria with her husband, Prince Philip, and two children, Princess Ann and Prince Charles(Now King Charles). On their return to London, some West African officer cadets who were studying at the Prestigious Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, England, were organised to give the Queen and her family a guard of honour at Heathrow Airport. Prince Charled was about 7 or 8 years at the time.

I saw on the News yesterday that King Charles turned 77 years recently. It makes me wonder how old Gowon is?

Gowon, King Charles and Princess Ann are the only people in this picture that are still alive

Major General Alexander Madiebo: Was Gowons course mate at Sandhurst. He later became the GOC commanding the entire Biafran Army during the Civil war. He died in 2022 aged 90 years

Major General David Ejoor: He also attended Sandhurst but was a course ahead of Gowon and Madiebo. He would later become Military Governor of the old Midwest Region. He also became Chief Of Army Staff. He died in 2019 aged 87 years

Major General Yakubu Gowon: Briefly became Chief Of Army Staff before becoming Military Head Of State
