Locking has absolutely zilch to do with it. So it will work for you too.

It's almost plug and play but you have to do something first.

1. Remove any sim inside 801A and plug it in.
2. Connect to it via your pc or phone and login, usually through 192.168.0.1
3. Change current mode to cable broadband mode. It will ask you to select the LAN port which will act as WAN (ie the one you will plug the LAN cable from the ODU connection unit (the power bank)).
4. Connect everything as you would have done. You can power 801A with its own power bank or from the shared power bank, which is what I did to reduce number of cables and adapters.
5. When everything is connected, choose 'dynamic' as connection mode and you are good to go.

You don't have to do these the next time. Just remember the port you chose as WAN port.
Would this work for the hertz 6 the new model without the antenna like thing?

I don't know the device you referenced.

If it has LAN ports, it's likely going to work; especially if one of the LAN ports has 'WAN' written beside it.

If it's not a CAT 6 device, you better use the IDU that comes with G5F than going through the stress.

Thanks, just got it working now, followed your exact procedure.
Please are you able to visit pexels dot com seamlessly?

Did you connect through dynamic mode or you set up the static IP option?

I don't know why Airtel is struggling to open this site in all my routers. I have to always use a VPN before it works well.

I think this is one of the most useless router out there it has zero tweak functionality i can't even find a way to lock Band or Cell

I just tried visiting the site but it wouldn't load.
If there was a way to change the DNS settings on the ZTE router, that would have resolved it. I haven't found that setting.

Yeah, I chose Dynamic IP option.

BTW, have you tried using your X25 as the IDU? I tried it but I couldn't find the connection mode settings.

The dumbest of them all I guess. Very basic interface.

The network reception is not that bad though.

Can’t even monitor data usage.

By this, I guess you mean the G5F? The MC801A can have its DNS server changed. You can set it if you choose Static instead of Dynamic.
I was trying to set it up but don't know what to put in the Default Gateway field. If anyone knows what it is, I can check again to see if it will work. When I was using just the X25, I changed the primary and secondary DNS servers to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 respectively but still not able to visit pexels without VPN.

I haven't tried using the X25 because, since it's an Airtel router, I have taken it elsewhere where I will sometimes use the ODU sim to browse in it. @saint2ace said it's plug and play and it appears he has tried it. Abeg @saint2ace come explain how you used it.

In any case, I will try go take the X25 and try later this evening or next week, for science. Just that I have somewhat permanently put the router arrangements in place and the MC801 is well fitted in its place.

The Pexels may be an issue with Airtel public IP address so there’s little you can do than to use VPN. It’s not from the router. It’s from the network.

Some people here said they were able to tweak it and visit specific sites without issues. I have same thought as you but when someone showed a screenshot of said site visited without problems, it was still Airtel they said they used. That's why I keep trying.

I tried opening the site and it’s not going through as well either with router or normal data.

Airtel doesn’t use only one public IP. They have multiple IPs they assign to different areas. Perhaps it’s some of the IP addresses that have that issue so it’s possible you are on an IP that can’t access while others who are able to open the site are on a different IP address.

I see.

With my new router and about 3 other numbers, I have never opened some sites like Pexels without issue, with Airtel. Other networks work well with these sites. Airtel self eh.

I replied you and the bot deleted my comment unnecessarily. I don't understand what's going on Nairaland. There was nothing explicit in any way in my comment. Seun, you need to do something about your bot.

Anyway, I don't know the default gateway either.

Regarding the DNS, I don't think changing it changes anything. Only the use of VPN has been effective for me.

Yeah, I have tried the X25 as IDU and i keep getting the 'No Internet' error, so I don't think it's plug and play. Some setting has to be changed, I just don't know where the connection mode is for the router. I mean where to change it to Cable mode, and then proceed to select either Dynamic or Static. Hopefully, you may be able to figure it out.

Log in as root user, find the Internet Function settings, go to network settings and change the WAN mode to wired.

How does that logging in as root work?

I'm testing with the X25 now and, somehow, it's plug and play but it's only browsing in my phone and not browsing on pc. Also, 192.168.1.1, where I would have logged in to change settings is not working.

I will just test with another port now.

I will report when I get it working properly.

Maybe you changed the LAN IP address. If you did, then you may not be able to log in using that address. If you can’t remember what you set it to, then you may have to reset the router.

It's working when I visit it while using just the router connected to power, but when connected via the ODU, the IP doesn't open.

Meanwhile, when only power and it opens, admin and root do not login.

root and root also don't. Apparently that superuser interface is not available for this router. This is the normal X25 and not the pro or max variant.

You can try to make the changes with the normal log in.

As for not being able to access the page when connected to the ODU, it may be due to IP conflict.

What you should do is log in without connecting to the ODU, then change the LAN IP address to something like 192.168.5.1 then save. This will be the new address you’ll be using to log in.

it is not only pexels.com. Sometimes even my whatsapp won't send and receive messages without VPN. I think it is an issue with the 5ghz channel. I have been using the 2.4ghz channel and nothing of such happened.

I changed the ip, was able to login to normal admin portal but couldn't do much with it. Root still didn't login, internet didn't work.

Funnily enough, my phone, which browsed initially, stopped browsing when I tried other ports and back to the first lan port.

Now I have a theory as to why it initially browsed on phone and not pc. I turned 5G optimization on and the phone typically connects with 2.4Ghz and the pc 5Ghz. Apparently using the X25 as wired router only works with 2.4Ghz when 5G Optimization is on. I stand to be corrected.

I tried many times to get the router to browse again even on the phone with no luck. I even had to switch off the 5g optimization and reboot the router many times with no success. I had to reluctantly reset it to factory settings, still to no avail.

I just plugged MC801A back. I no dey try again jare. Maybe tomorrow but not tonight again cheesy

I am curious. Why are you pipo stressing over using another router to link when the main router works just fine. Like works perfectly fine.

For instance I have about 10 devices connected and still stream just fine. I'm just curious though.

If you have a hardware sitting idle and you found you can put it to use, why not experiment? For most people, it won't make much difference using a CAT 5 vs CAT 6, especially if you have 5G signal in your location. I'm already hooked to ZTE MC801A as my IDU and put the follow come IDU to rest. I might one day use it as a repeater.

😁

It can be stressful getting it to work. That’s assuming it will work especially considering they’re from different manufacturers.

You can check if your ODU recognises the X25 when you plug it in.

Good luck.

It recognized it as the network indicator lights up when it's plugged, just like it does when I plug MC801A.

The indicator may light because the connector was plugged in.

When you try again, enter the ODU interface and see if it recognised the X25 and if an IP was assigned to it. If an IP address was assigned, you can use that in the X25 settings as the default gateway.

You know, without successfully connecting the IDU to internet, the ODU interface won't be accessible. Or so I think, because I did try to access it, also to no avail.

Try this instead.

Log in to the ODU, then go to the DHCP. You should be able to manually assign an IP address to the X25 using the X25’s MAC address. Check the MAC address under the router.

I don’t know what your ODU IP address is but for example, if your ODU IP is 192.168.0.1, that means you can set an address from 192.168.0.2 - 254 (only the digits after the last dot)

In this instance, you can set your X25 as 192.168.0.54. Once this is done, go to your X25 and set 192.168.0.54 as default gateway.
