Nigerian media personality Lizzy has ignited a fresh wave of controversy on social media after publicly accusing popular social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) of hypocrisy and alleged involvement in the sale of counterfeit iPhones. Her claims have sparked intense debate online, especially given VDM’s reputation for exposing fraudulent businesses and criticizing individuals accused of dubious practices. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Taking to her TikTok page, Lizzy released a viral video in which she berated the outspoken activist for allegedly engaging in the same unethical behavior he often condemns in others. According to her, the phones sold by VDM are fake devices reportedly shipped in from China and lack key functionalities expected of genuine Apple products.

Lizzy alleged that several customers have already complained about the poor quality of the phones. She claimed the devices do not support essential features such as iCloud, a core component of Apple’s ecosystem, making the phones practically unusable for most users.

In her words, customers have been “returning the phones back-to-back,” accusing VDM of selling devices that Apple itself would not recognize. She maintained that the phones allegedly being sold through his platform are substandard and completely disconnected from Apple’s official software infrastructure.

Beyond the allegations of fake device sales, Lizzy accused VDM of operating with double standards. She reminded viewers of how VDM had in the past targeted several business owners, especially in the skincare industry, demanding full compliance with regulations, including NAFDAC approval, before endorsing or validating their products.

She referenced the case of Jenny’s Glow, whose business suffered after VDM publicly questioned the authenticity of her skincare products. Lizzy argued that it is contradictory for someone who positions himself as a champion of integrity to allegedly participate in questionable product sales.

Quoting her directly, Lizzy said:

“Mister ‘I have integrity’ is selling iPhones that are not recognized. This is the same man who ruined Jenny’s Glow’s business because of one customer. He is the same person who goes around asking skincare business owners for NAFDAC approval. But now, he is selling a fake iPhone that has no iCloud. Customers are returning it one after the other.”

She continued:

“He is ordering fake iPhones from China. The producers of the original iPhone don’t even know these ones exist. Does he have NAFDAC? When he attacked people like Nkechi Blessing over cream promotions, he insisted on certification. But today, he is allegedly selling fake iPhones. This is Nigeria.”

Her lengthy outburst, delivered in a mix of English and Nigerian Pidgin, was laced with sarcasm as she repeatedly referred to VDM as “Mr. Integrity”, suggesting that his public persona doesn’t align with his alleged actions.

The video has since circulated widely, drawing thousands of reactions across TikTok, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). While some Nigerians supported Lizzy’s claims and praised her for speaking up, others demanded evidence or defended VDM, insisting that he has built a reputation on transparency and would not risk it by engaging in such practices.

As of the time of filing this report, VeryDarkMan has not publicly responded to Lizzy’s allegations. However, observers expect that he may address the claims soon, given his history of tackling controversies head-on.

VDM, known for his bold commentaries and online activism, has frequently clashed with celebrities, influencers, and business owners over issues of fraud, exploitation, and product authenticity. This recent allegation, if proven true, could significantly dent his credibility — a point Lizzy emphasized strongly throughout her video.

For now, Nigerians remain divided as the online debate intensifies, with many awaiting VDM’s side of the story.
