samistry:I knew after Kpop Demon Hunters, they will rush into another mainstream pop culture niche. People may hate me for saying this but Kpop Demon Hunters wouldn't have been a hit if it wasn't released in streaming, it was able to find it's niche there but the glazing Sony received then especially with Disney's Elio's failure at the same time that had a theatrical run really swelled their head, every animation critic made it seem like Sony have taken Disney's crown as if their spider verse franchise aren't the only animation they've released in theaters so far |

samistry:Lol, they were never indications of quality especially during the silver screen era as only 10% of the industry gets the spotlight shoving most indie flicks that didn't have the marketing budget aside and once nominated, it's still heavily politicized |

abduleez1:in the history of unnecessary flicks, this takes the crown as the most unnecessary because like what is genuinely the point? Didn't they just release a sequel to the animation last year, that didn't even bang? How old his the original, that they think a live action is necessary?? Why is Disney so afraid to look forward and do something new? Like since Disney started this live action remake, which one has truly truly been worthwhile? Not Mulan (2020), not Aladdin (2019), not Lion King (2020). There is a certain glitz that comes with animation, that can never carry over to live action, no matter the CGI capabilities. I hate how Disney is sucked in this live action/remake dead era...they used to be a leader in this genre, the rot has even extended to Pixar, like Soul (2020), is the last animation from them i have genuinely enjoyed, it's all downhill since then...i seriously wish, a more competent animation studio will snatch thier chain. |

What has Nollywood cooked for us? Another JAGUN JAGUN regen? 😤 Something I noticed tho, seems recent productions have had a significant improvement in vfx use and quality. Note top tier like what I've been conditioned to consume from Hollywood but it's very passable and to some extent on par or close to those VFX work I see for more expensive Indian flicks some years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMTZzttVC1Y?si=AL7lABevk9ug97ug |

oyaskii:Well, Disney can keep doing their nonsense e no even concern me again..... My own is Universal and DreamWorks keep capitalising on Disney's failures. Now, no one fears Disney animated films unlike before where a new Pixar/Disney flick, no one dares put their films close to them to avoid being crushed. But now, Universal studios/Illumination has made them look ordinary. The only major problem I have is with consumers .... As long as they keep making slop like the live action remakes profitable and hitting billion dollars status, Disney would never stop to make true creative a centrepiece. Aladdin, Jungle Book, Lion King, etc they all made them billions of dollars.... So more will come. I just hope this one flops so hard they have a rethink going forward. Anyways, I don't think this one is hitting a billion dollar. Probably around the $600-700mn range.... Which might still be painfully profitable for Disney. I don't even know what they're thinking at that studio.... An animated sequel came out last year and now releasing a live action for a piece of entertainment that's barely a decade old. Anyways na consumers dey give dem leverage. |

abduleez1:Another cash grab. These people no dey tire. Anyway, those that would go spend money at the cinema to see a known storyline, good luck to them. |

oyaskii:The problem is, apart from Mulan, the rest you metioned are all box office success raking billions for Disney, so would you blame them for continuing with the BS when there are millions out there who would still encourage them to make these slops? Until they start making back to back losses with these live action remakes, they won't stop. |

abduleez1:If they want to milk Moana so bad, why not do Moana 3 and Moana 4. A live action Moana is not necessary nau. The original Moana is doing just fine. Moana 2 grossed a billion dollars last year. |

Milly Bobby-Brown should fire her agent See what her mate from Stranger Things is doing while she's stuck doing Netflix movies

| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by oyaskii(m): 4:01pm On Nov 18, 2025 |
Beorn:You have just said it all. Making these live action remakes is almost guaranteed massive payday. It seems the people yearn for nostalgia, most especially since newer IPs aren't raking in cash either and Cinema are surprisingly now in a fierce competition with VOD that has seriously hurt their finances, so why not keeping playing the safest bet? My issue is just the timing, Moana (2016) wasn't that far away, for a live action nostalgic remake but it's one of their favourite titles in recent memory and it's very popular with the little ones, so i seriously respect their hustle.

BlackManta:It's probably time to admit, she's not a very good actress..No? 🤷🏿♂️...All are performances post Stranger Things hey days aren't all that sparkling, and she seemed more focused on raising a family in the last 3 years or so...so |

My skepticism of this movie grossing a billion dollars has always been the capability of Lionsgate. They are not a capable studio. The only reason I'm more hopeful of this movie's box office is mainly because of the involvement of Universal.
