All Time List Of African Footballer Of The Year Winners by naptu2(op):
The 2025 CAF Awards will be held tonight in Rabat, Morocco so we take a look at previous winners of the awards.

France Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, organised the Ballon d’Or Africain from 1970 till 1994 and the winner of that award was recognised as the African Footballer of the Year. In 1995 the magazine opened its main Ballon d’Or award to non-European players and discontinued the Ballon d’Or Africain.

Ghana's Ibrahim Sunday was the first to win it in 1970. Abedi Pele also won it 1991-1993
Nigeria made good progress from 1994 -1997 and also with Osimhen and Lukman in recent years. Nigeria seems to have won it more than Ghana, although Ghana was robbed when CAF gave it to EL Hadki Diouf instead Sammy Kufour in 2001

Coach Olayemi Tella (a legend of youth football in Nigeria who I knew since 1979) passed away from cancer in 2007.

yea, nice write-up.

Okocha did himself though.

He was afraid of taking challenges, playing for low clubs!
He was just after money like our regular naija footballers mentality.

This life sha..

Okocha face no show despite say nah better player. He didn’t win much.

When Mikel said he’s the most decorated Nigeria footballer, many people came for him. But it’s the truth. He don almost everything at Chelsea. Okocha did not win 1% of what mikel won..

Okocha self no make money like mikel..

I think Diouf deserved it bro..

It was not a robb..
Exactly, even the Senegal team was in hot form then. Beating France in world cup that had henry & Zidane and reaching the QF. Kuffor did well too but football will always favor strikers
