According to a report by Channels Television on Thursday, November 20, 2025 Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team has expressed deep disappointment following his conviction, describing the ruling as a setback for Nigeria’s judiciary and criminal justice system. Speaking after the verdict, one of Kanu’s lawyers stated, “I feel very bad, I feel sad. It’s a very bad day for the judiciary. It is very bad for the criminal justice system in Nigeria.” The lawyer emphasized that, in his career, he has never witnessed a conviction based solely on spoken words. “This is the first time in my entire life as a lawyer that I have seen a man being convicted for mere words he uttered,” he added, highlighting the legal team’s concerns over the interpretation of the law in this case. Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was recently convicted on multiple terrorism-related charges. The court found him guilty on seven counts, including acts of terrorism, leading a banned organization, threatening and killing security operatives, property destruction, and importing an unregistered radio transmitter. Following the conviction, Kanu’s lawyers confirmed plans to appeal the ruling at the Court of Appeal. They argued that his rights to a fair hearing were compromised and that the sentences imposed were excessively harsh, given the nature of the alleged offences. The legal team also stated that all available legal channels would be pursued to seek redress and ensure that Kanu’s case is reviewed by a higher court. Meanwhile, the Federal High Court’s judgment continues to generate nationwide debate over the application of anti-terrorism laws and freedom of expression. As the appeal process begins, attention is now shifting to the Court of Appeal, where Kanu’s defense will seek to overturn or modify the lower court’s decision. https://stories.apexnews-af.com/news/detail/d7d6561587fd499542ad9747fe24d914?features=36028814200947209&country=ng&uid=e8806daef5f54f43dff94e6fe4eee22406078822&like_count=0&client=mini&language=en |

I can’t stop laughing over the Yoruba Kangaroo judgment and their celebration today. The government has increased Kanus supporters with that judgment and they will regret it big time |

I blame kanu for hiring charge and bail lawyers... A Ruandan journalist was convicted for inciting violence on radio which caused the Ruandan civil war and genocide. I no know where kanu go pick these him set of incompetent lawyers that failed him. How can he never have heard of anywhere people are convicted for inciting people to violence or crimes with their "mere words"? And I'm not even a lawyer! |

Words are not just mere. They are powerful tools that are used to create chaos and confusion. It’s absolutely ridiculous for Kanu’s lawyers to describe a call to violence, disingenuous and insurrection mere words. Simon Ekpa is in prison in Finland for the same “mere words”. Adeyinka Grandson was imprisoned in UK for the same “mere words”. In fact, Ibos celebrated the conviction of Adeyinka Grandson so they should stop crying about Kanu’s conviction. They both spoke “mere words” that took them to prison. |

The entire drama reminds me of the saying from my mentor: "It is praise worthy to be brave and fearless, but SOMETIMES it is better to be a coward. We often stand in the compound of a coward to point at the ruins where a brave man used to live." -Chinua Achebe. Culled from Arrow of God!😊
