Life Sentence Not The End For Nnamdi Kanu – Shehu Sani by peekspot(op): 9:07pm On Nov 21, 2025
A former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has called for dialogue and peaceful resolution following the life imprisonment sentence handed to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, on terrorism charges.

In a post on X on Friday, Sani drew from his own experience of enduring imprisonment under the military regime to describe life imprisonment as a survivable phase rather than a final end.

Sani, who was convicted and sentenced by the late Gen. Sani Abacha military junta and served in the Aba Correctional Centre between 1995 and 1998, recounted the relative kindness he received from most inmates and warders, despite encounters with “a few tough guys.”

He wrote, “Sentencing a man to life imprisonment is not the end of his life. Some of us have been through life imprisonment and we survived it.

“I served my own life imprisonment in Aba Prisons, Abia State, after spending a year in Kiri Kiri and Port Harcourt prisons.

“The inmates and warders treated me well, except for some few tough guys. There is still room for dialogue to resolve the issue in the interest of peace. Life imprisonment is a phase and not the end.”

Sani’s remarks came amid renewed attention to the detention of Kanu, following reports that he had been moved to a correctional facility in Sokoto.

Kanu’s former lawyer and consultant, Aloy Ejimakor, in a post on X on Friday, expressed concern over the development, saying the relocation places Kanu far from his legal team, family and supporters.

“While urging #Ndigbo to remain calm, I must question the wisdom of sending #MNK to Sokoto prison.

“When Awolowo was convicted in 1963, he was sent to the East, a neutral zone in his feud with the North. Pres. Tinubu can still halt this drift, as I said in this video,” he wrote.

The reported transfer had not been independently confirmed by PUNCH Online as of Friday evening.

Kanu was sentenced on Thursday by the Federal High Court in Abuja for seven terrorism-related charges, a verdict IPOB has rejected as unlawful and politically motivated.

Justice James Omotosho handed him life terms on five of the counts, 20 years on one, and five years on another, all without an option of fine.

The judge also noted that placing Kanu in Kuje Correctional Centre might not be appropriate due to security concerns, suggesting the need for a more secure facility.

Kanu's case is a clear example of how not to be a freedom fighter.

If Kanu had followed the constitutional way of seeking for Biafra, he would have been a hero by now.

It is too late for regrets though

An unjust country where injustice prevails.

I don't blame them though, some events have divine purpose.
1, Nnammdi Kanu has a divine mandate to fight the battle he is fighting, that's why he hasn't collected money from Nigerian corrupt government. To him the course he is for is far bigger than Nigeria, that's why he has been able to stand tall in mist of all this trial. Don't you see the power he emits when he talks, you think it's normal?

All what is happening today in Nigeria was envisaged by NK. Infact listening to snippets of his broadcast made over 10 years ago makes you wonder if he teleported into the future to see all what is happening now, the killings, kidnappings, FG being complicit and terrorists enablers, Tinubu disposition etc....

I wish he could tell us what will happen in the near future after experiencing all his prophecies first hand. We need solutions which I believe if he could foresee the future, he could also device means to maneuver all these challenges facing us to prevent Christians from going extinct

Only a fool doesn't know that Kanu will be released sooner or later, so nothing to be sad or happy about... Let the south east go, there senators and legislators should leave Abuja, and no one should come out to contest for any position in the next election if they actually want to leave

One of the only few senators with a working brain.. no cap!!
Re: Life Sentence Not The End For Nnamdi Kanu – Shehu Sani by ARISHEM:
Kanu has clarified visibly and unremorsefully that if they release him he will continue far more dangerously from where he stopped. The federal government will therefore be cautious for those calling for his release.
Government only release people that have been de-radicalized.
His only hope now is an appeal against the judgement

Wise master, please what's the Constitutional way, when nothing like self-determination is in the Nigeria's constitution. Please educate wise master, the right way to win in a game where the ref doesn't follow the rules he set, but decides which one to obey and which one not to obey. Wise one, there must be a way, because the 1967 Aburi Accord was a very peaceful way, but it was rejected and ended up with violence. A million and one awaits your indepth knowledge about the Constitutional way sir.

Not really.

Fela, Gani Fawehinmi, Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu, etc. What's the lesson?

Nigerians are not worth anyone sticking out their neck for them. If everyone must die or live, so be it. Don't try to be a hero.

His proffered solution was the creation of biafra which he also predicted will eventually come to pass after the killings of both biafrans and enemies of biafra.

Did Kanu not chose to represent himself from henceforth, so what exactly does he need a legal team again?

President of Nigeria = Yoruba
Attorney General of Nigeria = Yoruba
Prosecuting Counsel Against Kanu = Yoruba
Head of The DSS that holds Kanu incommunicado = Yoruba

Head of The Police Deployed To Contain Reactions Against The Predetermined Judgement = Yoruba
Justice Omotosho that is handling the case = Yoruba
Media Houses Pushing for the Judicial assassination of Kanu = Yoruba..

Essentially, the APC wing of the Yoruba political establishment and their followers have chosen to make the conviction of Kanu their own ethnic agenda.
Let's see how it plays out ...
