There is nothing like migration within the confines of a country. The constitution is very clear on that. Every Nigerian is free to live and work in any part of the country. We can’t make the constitution a proclamation of convenience. The one Nigeria under one constitution has always been the guiding principle. SW does not operate a different system and the discussion of the effect of migration on the region by itself is speaking on both sides of the mouth.
the people you call "northerners" in Lagos and some other southern states are from niger republic, Chad and Sudan...

they are not Nigerians... and are meant to be deported by immigration officers.

northern Nigerians do not migrate to southern Nigeria.

Yorubas should protect their region and control the migration of this economic migrants who have failed to hold their leaders accountable, thereby putting the burden on our infrastructure and taking the limited opportunities meant for the indigenous Yoruba population, yet this ingrates still label us derogatory names undecided
All you have to do is have your own country and control who you let in.

Nobody is migrating to Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Oyo and Ogun states though.

It's a shame and an enormous embarrassment how everyone from South Westen Nigerian hides under the cloak of Lagos state to claim "YorubaLand". It's just like someone from Sokoto claiming Kano state simply becasue they are both NW states.

It's a pity how people are so ashamed of their own state that they deny it just to claim Yorubaland, beacsue of Lagos.
You can easily identify one of the weeds Otunba Daniels was talking about. There is no village, note my word, not city, I mean village in southwest that we will not find you immigrants either doing prostitution or selling okrika all in the name of development.

grin who conducted the census? Just like I said, Sw still host the highest number of economic migrants in the country and aside Lagos, Ibadan and Ogun state have a huge numbers of ibos running into millions and in their usual chest beating manner, they are already claiming to be developing Ibadan and Ogun state but when it’s suit their warped narrative, they only migrate to Lagos grin

In China, you literally have to apply with the central Chinese government for permits to live in the big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In Shanghai citizens indigenous to the area are classified as A and are given first preference for employment. This has helped manage growth. Everyone can’t relocate to Lagos or Abuja. People need to develop their respective states. Nigeria has to practise something like this or else Nigeria will continue to be a shithole
Abokis and terrorists bandits won't allow us develop for them, that's where the problem lies, so is a northerner is developing his state by working hard on his farm and bandits and headers come and destroys everything and kills him or kidnap, how will he develop

grin so many ignorant Okoro that think that know Lagos history more than the Yorubas…..Lagos as former fct ended at yaba with just 3 local govt which was, Lagos island, yaba and apapa. While the rest of what makes Lagos of today was under western region of Awolowo and he developed the ilupeju and Ikeja industrial estate and other infrastructure with cocoa money while Lagos as Fct was far ahead and more developed than Nigeria before its amalgamation to Nigeria, so get your fact right btw proudly Lagos grin

Also every peace loving south westerners must reject the idea of establishing sharia law in the region under any guise. Sharia law is the bedrock of instabilities in the northern region.
As long as muric is in SW..

there will always be a push for sharia law..

but that may not be needed since the u:s:a wants to strike Lagos.

who do you think the u:S:a will use to launch attacks in defense of christians

it is the illegal immigrants from Niger republic, chad and sudan they will use..

just watch, there will soon be attacks on religious places in Lagos then the U:S will strike Lagos then destroy dangote refinery.

We only have rural-urban migration due to unequal opportunities and poor leadership.

You cannot call your fellow countrymen and women migrants, it's a treasonable offense if Nigeria had law. Calling your fellow countrymen and women migrants ought to attract a long jail term because it's a treasonable offense but in Nigeria, the law is selective and that's why Nigeria is not working.

If you want to control who comes into Southwest, you Yoruba leaders should stop being cowardly and be bold and courageous enough to demand for a separate Yoruba or Southwest country where you will have your own country's immigration, Police and Border Security to checkmate migrants coming into your country.

But as long as you guys want Nigeria to remain one indivisible nation, you have no legal right or backing to stop law abiding citizens of Nigeria from moving and living freely anywhere they want in Nigeria.

Which country is that?
China's internal migration policy is called the hukou system. If we had this system in Nigeria, we wouldn't have the land grab problem that is prevalent in the Middle-belt, or Fulani herders creating havoc across the country. It will also force the state to invest in social, education and health development.

The reason for so much internal migration in Nigeria today is insecurity in Northern Nigeria. Soon, migrants from Darfur, Chad, Niger, and Mali will be coming to the SW due to insecurity in the Sahel.

China's internal migration policy is called the hukou system, which is a household registration system that has historically controlled population movement and tied citizens' social rights to their registered place of birth.

While reforms have loosened restrictions, the system still dictates access to services like education, healthcare, and social insurance, often restricting access for migrants who move to new areas.

Hukou system: The official Chinese term is huji (户籍), but the system is commonly known as hukou (户口), which means "household registration".

Function: The system divides citizens into categories, most notably urban and rural. Access to local services, such as housing, education, and healthcare, is often tied to holding an urban hukou.

Migration restrictions: Although the system was liberalized after 1978 to allow for rural-to-urban migration to meet labor demands, it historically prevented migrants from transferring their social rights to their destination.

Impact: Migrants without a local hukou have limited access to basic public services in the cities where they live and work, creating a "floating population" with disenfranchised social and economic rights.

Reforms: In 2014, the government introduced reforms to further relax restrictions and promote a more integrated society, but the core of the system remains.

I still discussed this serious matter with some fellow landlords yesterday. Is there anything we can do to stop this influx of foreigners into the Southwest? My street here in Ondo State is currently dominated by northerners (many of them are from Niger republic). They have turned every corner and uncompleted buildings to shacks and residents. Their kids are everywhere, they don't attend school. Early in the morning they are already roaming about the community scavenging for scrap iron and plastic bottles. They know every in-and-out of our area than our own children.

bestofnollywood:
Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy and Senator representing Ogun East, has identified rapid population growth and uncontrolled migration as the primary security threats facing Nigeria's Southwest region, even as he acknowledged the area's relative success in managing broader security challenges.

Speaking at the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on National Security Summit held in conjunction with the Lagos State Government on Friday in Lagos, Daniel highlighted the paradox facing the region: while the Southwest has weathered national security crises comparatively well, internal demographic pressures pose an unprecedented threat.

"When we look at the state of security in the nation, I think the South West has done considerably fairly, and that I believe is commendable," Daniel stated, placing the region's security performance in a positive light relative to other parts of Nigeria grappling with insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping.

However, the former Ogun State Governor cautioned that beneath this relative stability lies a ticking time bomb. The region's rapid development and economic opportunities, he explained, have attracted unprecedented migration flows that often lack proper documentation and integration mechanisms, creating fertile ground for criminal activities.

"Population explosion remains the biggest challenge that plagues the Southwest," Daniel stressed, noting that while the region continues to battle kidnapping, farmer-herder conflicts, terrorism, and banditry, the unaccounted-for migration wave poses a distinct and mounting threat to public safety.

The Senator pointed to Lagos State as the epicentre of this migration challenge, describing it as "the most volatile" in terms of population pressure. However, he warned that Ogun State is increasingly experiencing similar pressures, signalling that the challenge extends beyond Nigeria's commercial hub.

To address this multifaceted challenge, Daniel called for strategic deployment of modern technology and enhanced infrastructure development. These measures, he suggested, are essential for better population management, tracking, and integration while simultaneously addressing the underlying factors driving uncontrolled migration to the region.

The summit, chaired by Senator Tokunbo Abiru, brought together a diverse array of stakeholders committed to strengthening Southwest security. The gathering included lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and heads of major security agencies. Represented at the high-level meeting were officials from the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Lagos Neighbourhood Watch, and the Peace Corps of Nigeria, among other security and community organisations.

The convergence of these institutions underscores the gravity with which leadership views the security landscape and the recognition that sustainable solutions require collaborative, multi-sectoral approaches that extend beyond enforcement to encompass technology, infrastructure, and community engagement.

What is with your people. ? You dont want people agitating to secede from the country to be on their own. You sttack those who call for seperation. You still go ahead to tell some of the "foreigners" to go back to their village. Thesame "foreigners" you attack everyday that want to be out of the Union.

Now you are complaining about the other "foreigners" from the North. You have been discussing with some of your folks about how these so called "foreigners" have taken over your streets.

My first question for you is who are the foreigners inside one Nigeria you fought for ?

What do you and your peoöle actuallly want from the contraption öne Nigeria ?
