This is one of the reasons why I still had minor complaints on Szcezsny's part last season to Inter Milan. I felt two of those goals were avoidable by a top tier goalkeeper. Having a goalkeeper that does the extraordinary saves, keeps you alive for finals.

Absolutely mate. Joan Garcia could be the difference for us this season if he stays fit. The guy is confidence personified. I sat close to him in the 2nd half and the way he commanded the area was excellent even though Atletic Bilbao were already a man down.

International football doesn't work that way though. No matter the form, Emi Martinez will always start for Argentina. No matter the form, Unai Simon will always start for Spain. In the absence of Rodrigo, he's their captain. Won them euros as starter.

Casilas was declining yet still started 2014 world cup. International football is hierarchical. Unless Simon suffers injuries or EXTREMELY BAD form, he starts 100% and will do so in the next 4-6 years. @28, he's pretty young for a GK.

I think he'll still keep it if he continues to perform for the national team while being average to good at club level. You think if Spain wins the WC with him as starter, he'll lose his place? Nope. That's a renewal energy for at least 3 or 4 more years.

On the the other post, yeah. Eric, Dejong and Fermin will give us a real challenge. With only Dejong at DM, it's a sure win for Chelsea.
