While opposition are making noise all over, trying to destabilize the country, Tinubu is laser focused on recalibrating the country, refusing to be distracted. No doubt, more than 24 states will vote in favor of the new constitution, if not all the 36 states are locked in for a new constitution. If your state vote against this bill, then your lawmakers & Governor are enemies of the state. A people's constitution therefore has come to replace the 1999 military imposed constitution. Somebody say Jagaban!! -Kiss the truth! |

Devolve more powers to statesWith all these contained in the constitution, 80% of Nigeria's problems is solved already. Believe me, APC will be in power for at least a 100 years. |

Local government autonomy and state police are the most important for me. The 9th NA voted in favour of LG having autonomy but it failed at the state assemblies, I hope it will be successful this time around. I believe it will fast track development. Except Lagos and few other states, when you leave the state capital, the rest of the states are nothing to write home about |

Ikaeniyan0:For me, fiscal federalism and devolution of power, it's high time we began running the country like true federalism. |

Ikaeniyan0:Yes sir but let each state control their resources |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by Ikaeniyan0: 5:48pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Putindbutt:I doubt Nigeria will stop this feeding bottle federalism anytime soon. |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by Ikaeniyan0: 5:50pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Jaylord12:I'm 100% for resource control. When Tinubu want the states to keep 60% of the VATs they generate, we all know the people supporting northern politicians who rejected it. I think LG should be the ones getting the 13% oil derivation sef because I can't see what the 13% is spent on in oil producing areas in the Niger Delta. |

Pakute:If not for the state assemblies, LG will be independent by now. INEC should be in charge of holding LG elections or a new electoral commission should be established |

Ikaeniyan0:It would, in the tax reform, states that contribute more in revenue gets more from the allocation. |

TimeManager:M.aga. Every deception has expiry date. Enough of too many promises. All the ones done before, where did it end? Where is state creation? You can fuuul some people some times but you cant fuul all the people all the time |

| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by Putindbutt(m): 6:07pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Ikaeniyan0:The Supreme Court already had ruled in favour of LG autonomy and moreover, most states are now largely in favor of it today. |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by Ikaeniyan0: 6:08pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Putindbutt:Have you forget the uproar when Tinubu suggested states should keep 60% of what they generate? Igbos on nairaland were fully backing the northern politicians against the sharing formulae. States were eventually allowed to keep 30% of what they generate. Majority of the states in Nigeria will collapse without oil money |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by Ikaeniyan0: 6:10pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Putindbutt:Even though the supreme court ruled in favour of LG autonomy, they are presently still controlled by the states. That's why the lawmakers want to truly let them become autonomous. |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by TimeManager(m): 6:16pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Ikaeniyan0:As long as the Supreme Court had ruled over it, it becomes a law. It's no longer a matter for debate, the constitution will have to accommodate it. Whether the Governors will obey the law and allow it LG to function is another debate entirely. -Kiss the truth! |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by Ikaeniyan0: 6:18pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
TimeManager:As at today, the State governments are still dictating to LG chairmen. The only difference now is that the states must hold a LG election instead of appointing caretaker committees |
| Re: Constitution Amendment: NASS Holds Final Retreat, Set To Vote On Final Draft by TimeManager(m): 7:34pm On Nov 24, 2025 |
Ikaeniyan0:We are moving past all of these once the amendment becomes law. Now, every Governor is rushing to conduct LG elections compared to what it was in the past, it tells you that something is changing. As soon as we have a new constitution, it would become a breach of the constitution if any Governor acts otherwise, they can as well be sued in court. -Kiss the truth! |

Local Governments through out the country are almost dead or at best, they are structures without functions. I want to believe that reviving the local governments should be a topmost priority of the constitutional conferences. |
