When Founders Get Fired: Lessons From Facebook And Paystack by hassinho707(op):
This issue of a company owner being sacked from the very company he founded is something I find quite strange. I know that Paystack was sold to Stripe, but I still don’t understand why there was a policy that required one of the founders, Ezra Olubi, to be removed.

I remember watching one of Mark Zuckerberg’s early interviews on YouTube where he said that in 2006, Yahoo offered to buy Facebook for $1 billion. Everyone on the management team wanted to sell, and the board even considered firing him. They felt that rejecting such a huge offer was a mistake. Zuckerberg refused to sell, and that disagreement created a conflict that could have legally cost him his job.

Imagine Seun Osewa being kicked out of Nairaland — it would feel ridiculous for the creator of the platform to be pushed out while others take over and benefit from his idea.

Zuckerberg said he didn’t want to be fired from his own company for wanting to keep building it, so he created a governance structure that made it very difficult for anyone to remove him.

I think Ezra Olubi and his co-founder at Paystack might have benefitted from setting up a similar structure.

Imagine the moderators of this forum ganging up against the lone Seun Osewa. What a long post it will take to explain to we the regular visitors.

Honestly, it’s a very funny thing. I just added the YouTube Short link where Mark Zuckerberg explained how he was almost sacked from Facebook, and the steps he took afterward to protect himself from ever being removed again.

If you own the company 100% you can't be fired, it's when you have investors who own some part of the business that you can be fired
