I personally believe the North is gone, because the NW and NE regions of Nigeria are now a passionate and willing part of the Sahel region of terrorist nations in all but name and not devoted to Nigeria nor their fellow Nigerians that are not of same ethnic stock and religion as them.

They feels they must side with their Fulani brothers, and not Nigeria, in the grand plan for them to make Sub-Saharan Africa an Islamic caliphate.

Northerners in Nigeria have more loyalty and affinity for non-Nigerians from Mali , in danger of being overrun by Terrorists, and Senegal etal merely because they are from the same ethnic group as them (Fulani) and practice same religion of Islam.

The war against insecurity is one I doubt Nigeria can win because we are facing well-armed fighting Fulanis from across Africa, allowed to penetrate our borders up North with complicit ease, and not just a small group of disillusioned fellow Nigerians from the North we can deal with as internal conflict.
