Firstly, Nigeria have failed to elect good leaders, who will have the citizen's best interest at heart.

Good leaders births good and efficient governance. An efficient governance springs forth good development in all sectors of the nation's economy!

• Nigeria, is fond of poor policy execution, corruption and lack of accountability. This hinders development, significantly.

• Privatization and social programs, benefit just a few, instead of all citizens. This creates inequality and limited development.

• Also, over reliance on oil, has in a long way, hindered the diversification into sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, etc.

• Then, insecurity too. Banditry, Boko Haram, kidnappings etc, when not eliminated, disrupt economic activities and prevent development.

• Inefficient infrastructure, such as poor roads, unstable electricity, weak transportation systems, increases cost of living of the citizenry. This discourages investors, and this chain reaction ultimately stagnates development.

• Limited access to quality education, also critically delays development. Restricted access to quality education leads to skills gap, which in turn affects innovation and leads to critical inability to compete globally in terms of growth and development.

• Lastly sir eejo, Nigeria is fond of high debt servicing, weak tax collection and inefficient policies, which creates instability. Instability breeds confusion and under-development!

Sir eejo, Nigeria have failed to overcome the above challenges, which momentarily creates slow and stunted growth and development in most sectors of the economy of Nigeria.

Electricity on it's own, it's instability, is strongly linked to delayed development of most sectors in Nigeria as a whole. Failing to ensure it's stable and adequate supply, has caused under-development and stagnation.
Infact, electricity alone, is a unifying factor for all sectors of the Nigeria economy to thrive impeccably.
Stable and excellent supply of electricity, would attract investors, birth creations and sustainability of industries, and significantly reduce the rate of unemployment.

Stable and adequate electricity supply would birth efficient health services and top-notch healthcare system. Nigeria have failed at this, which causes decrease in life expectancy of the masses, limited productivity and in turn poor development.

Even, military operations would be well coordinated, with the ample availability of electricity.
Countries with very strong and formidable military, at the core of their operations, lies unending supply of electricity.
This makes the military personnels in those places function optimally, in well-coordinated ways, thereby critically lowering or getting rid of insecurity. Nigeria have failed critically at this as well, causing insecurity to linger for long, and grow stronger, which is counterproductive to the desired development.

Ensure good governance, impeccable health care systems, well-coordinated and structured military. Nigeria have failed at these, among other things, which does more harm than good, by slowing down the needed development, sir eejo.
Let electricity issue alone be solved, and see delayed development in Nigeria, be a thing of the past.

Western politicians have learned that dividing African countries risk more death than keeping it United. The Sudan experience is still giving them nightmares.

What has Nigeria failed to do that has delayed our development.
There is one of two things.
It has failed to disband the north.
It has failed to unite the south.

Doing one of these will solve all our challenges.

Equal distribution of wealth and proper representation from all states in the country.
Why will one person hold a senatorial seat for more than 8 or an elective post for more than 8 years?

There are other people capable of bringing new ideas.

Nigeria has failed to monitor every drop of crude oil taken from our soil, for decades, resulting in massive oil theft and zero accountability

Nigeria has failed to tap into it's teaming population if youth who are mostly unemployed.
The level of graduates and under graduates in Nigeria, if put into an industrial estate....

So much will be achieved even much faster than China. Nigerias population is under utilised.
That's what is delaying our development

As the country with the largest black population in Africa, Nigeria has failed to become a power House Because the more powerful you are the more wealth moves to you.

Nigeria has failed to extensively use her Population to turn her Natural resources into finished products. Although now we have a working refinery which is a good way forward.

Nigeria instead of turning her Natural resources into product sells them raw, loot the money and then borrow to buy finished product from overseas. One painful example is taking a loan from China for Trains and rail way tracks but we have steel in abundance in Nigeria
. Buy one Tank in millions of Nigeria but we steel to produce our own Tank.

Failing to build strong institutions, enforce rule of law, kill corruption, invest oil money in education, power & infrastructure instead of private pockets(Biggest f up).

Also, we have refused to reduce or totally kill off tribal and religious divisions that have stopped us from going forward together as a nation.

It probably is too late to effect any of this.

Basically if Nigeria can ba restructured along regional lines it will go along away in fastening development as it will encourage developmental competition among the regional arms...I hope am correct.

Failed to tackle corruption from the root. Failed in uniting the nation. Failed in delivering free, fair and credible elections. Failed in providing jobs and building infrastructures. Failed in fighting terrorism and insecurity.

What has Nigeria failed to do that has delayed our development.
1) Nigeria has failed to develop Infrastructure like roads, railways, and power supply

2) Nigeria has failed to develop her education system as evident in poor quality of basic and tertiary education.

Also the skills gap in critical sectors like technology, engineering, and healthcare is another weakness of Nigeria education system resulting in high youth unemployment due to mismatch between education and job market making most youths or let me say graduates do POS, yahoo and private school teachers.

3) Nigeria has failed to develop in industrialization and Agricultural mechanization

Low local production of goods; heavy import dependence.

Agriculture not fully modernized, leaving many in rural poverty.

4) Nigeria has failed to develop her healthcare

Health challenges like poor maternal and child health affect productivity.

5) Nigeria has failed to develop long-term planning

Short political terms focus on immediate gains rather than sustained development.
Our leaders rate second term ambition above long-term plans.

6) Nigeria has failed to develop because of poor budget Implementation.
Budgets often live mostly on paper

7) Nigeria has failed to develop because of failure of Inclusive growth

Benefits have largely failed to reach the majority of the population. This has led to persistently high levels of poverty, unemployment, and inequality which causes social tension and instability

cool Nigeria has failed to develop by not controlling and curbing bribery and corruption. The bribery and corruption is so widespread that it spread across all levels of government and even private organisations

9) Nigeria has failed to develop because of lack of accountability and transparency
public officials are not held accountable for mismanagement, poor performance, and corruption which has led to a culture of impunity

10) Nigeria has failed to develop because of over-reliance on oil which we were taught in secondary school as monoculture economy

Nigeria has failed to sufficiently diversify its economy away from crude oil, making the entire nation vulnerable to global oil price fluctuations

Development plans are often abandoned when governments change.

Though Nigeria always have plans and resources but Nigeria leaders and we, the masses, failed in consistent leadership, policy execution, and institution-building.

Gathering adequate information, data and statistics for useful purposes and accountability.

We don't know our true population, we don't even know the numbers of foreigners living amongst us.

Hardly do we even know the exact figures of our natural resources harnessed daily and the amount made from them.

A country that barely keeps honest records about so many things can hardly get any meaningful development because the rouges in power will eat and waste whatever they want.

It's a complex question...

The compact answer is the Nigeria is a "country" That sees itself as a nation
A country of many nations can never see itself as one nation it's impossible

We have refused to respect our differencies in our constitutions

We are not one, and I'm sure most Nigerians if they know what One Nigeria actually means won't want one Nigeria

It’s simple.. Nigeria shouldn’t have abandoned REGIONAL GOVT & PARLIAMENTARY SYSTEM as started in 1960.

Parliamentary system of Govt would have done this country a lot of good. This system of Govt no favour at all.. so much power to the centre

Also Regional Govt would have benefited this country a whole lot.

Military govt really do this country shege mentally!
