This month, the realisation just hit me on how I had lost deals in over 7 figures because of negligence.

On a rough assumption, I think more than 70% of Nigerians are on this path and haven't realised it yet...

Don't take my word for it yet, let me tell you my story, you could even be among the 70%

In 2018 I started learning graphic design by myself with Photoshop trial & error and of course, night sub on YouTube.

I would stay awake at night to download videos from YouTube and watch it during the day.

Vidmate App was my plug back then, you can search it up on Google, thank me later.

Sometimes I will activate night subscription which runs from 12am to 5am and by 11:50pm I'll sleep off and wake up by 5am😂...

It also means that I'll miss downloading the latest episode of The Flash series or The Vampire Dairies which were some of my favourites back then...

Anyways, fast forward to 2022, I had gotten much better, but stopped learning, because I was like, it takes too much time and a lot of Nigerians price too low.

So I started outsourcing jobs and sometimes find it difficult to maintain long relationships with clients, because an average designer in Nigeria is a heart breaker😅, they'll postpone your job until you no longer have the desire to use the flyer for what you wanted anymore. If you can relate...

Over time, I had clients left for the same time reason and even avoided some jobs because I knew I won't be able to deliver on time.

If only I knew, I would have brush up my skills and gotten back into the game. But I never did for years...

It's 2025, I finally got access to a coach that introduced me to how to secure clients that can pay well and these information have been existing for years and I didn't know.

Now, there's the option of go back and upskill or outsource new jobs, break clients hearts and gain a bad reputation or...

Do both, but with a different approach. Start with upskill, service clients directly, and after a while employ someone on full time and delegate tasks without heart breaks.

My question is, why did it took me this long to figure this out?

And before you start offering solutions and suggestions, check yourself first... Do you have a soft skill that you're highly good at and can work independently on your own terms?

If not, then it's either you're from a very rich family or your parents are probably presidents or governors...

Because why haven't you learned a soft skill yet?

2025 is coming to an end and do you want to continue life like this in 2026?

Personally, I have been thinking about my mistake and honestly, I wouldn't wish it for anyone.
