This is a template Jason Kilar then AT&T exec managing the whole WB was hell bent on making HBOMAX a streaming juggernaut and ZSJL was used as one of the test bed for insights. Max needed subscribers and badly needed more content and major projects cos it was new then and the loudmouths seemed a good option for an already established base. No massive numbers seen as was expected. Na audio "people had subscribed several months before ZSJL" in anticipation I dey hear that time. 😅😅

Na that time their eyes clear. Apple TV or even Amazon that I was expecting to be fighting for Zack Snyder since they were desperate for new franchise and "next Game of Thrones"— no one turned up except for Netflix.

If you truly big and relevant and well liked...you go dey red hot in the industry whether your former employer fire you or not. Eg, James Gunn no waste time wey WB grab am from rivals and they're thankful to Disney for that silly mistake. See how Universal recently grabbed Taylor Sheridan from Paramount. See how streamers are pouring serious money on filmmakers that regular studios refuse to fund their projects. Na there you go know.

Who wan give Martin Scorcese $200mn for movie for traditional studios? See them Guillermo Del Toro and David Fincher permanently grabbed and kept by Netflix. See the Duffer Brothers wey leave Netflix like this cos them no wan promise theatrical release. E no take weeks wey Skydance-Paramount grabbed the brothers to announce they're the new studio buyer with deep pockets in town.

See Greta Gerwig and her renegotiated deal with Netflix to put her Narnia movies on IMAX of all people — the premium format of PEAK cinema. Netflix wey no dey do pass two weeks for for like 1000 screens in North America going all out to please Greta with IMAX and a month of exclusive theatrical window. That's called leverage my brother. This is for a deal that was sealed and signed few years ago oo. Not now. Something agreed upon before Barbie. She blew up and levels increased.

David Ayer that I probably disliked more for that nonsense he did with Suicide Squad was in same limbo in Hollywood too and looked like he was Shadow blocked. What did he do? Did smaller works with way less budgets with indie studios. Grew his pedigree back up and future is looking up after recording some successes.

But you see Oga Zack, man is still deluded he's a Biggie and stuck with overblown projects of grandeur. Going for streaming alone, a safe option as Netflix at that really works against him. Cos let's face the facts, theatrical released projects gets more eyes on your projects cos either way, the film will still end up in streaming and cable. Hiding in streaming means execs can't really trust you with big projects or something serious when you're hiding in a lower stakes game. No box office test to gauge your popularity.

In hindsight, I'd say the Snydercult movement and how the event panned out 2021-22 is a blueprint to Hollywood execs how not to listen to fandoms sometimes.

That's why you see executives don't really care what fans says anymore and are more bothered than the general audience— the casuals who deliver the money, more than the loudmouthed nerds on social media.

You see as Disney no send Star Wars fan base again. So far money comes and shit doesn't flop, them no go get rethink in any of their plans. Fandoms can go to hell.

I feel that's because she's kinda selective with her projects and has mostly focused on producing also. Most of her recent films now are also co-produced by her and her production company. If Sydney wants to get 10 projects lined up for her from now till next year, she literally can. She's in high demand my bro if you don't know. She's working these lower projects to show her range and doesn't want to be put in this sexy b!mbo bubble.

Regarding the main topic, everyone knows marketing also plays an integral part in a film's success. But I can tell you for free that "movie stars" also sell movies to people and are almost as important.

Aquaman (2018) was sold on movie star Jason Momoa. Forget about DC branding cos the brand was faltering then and the character wasn't even a big deal to even comic fans.
Joker 2019 was sold on movie star power. Anywhere But You was a star vehicle.

Maybe the typical modern day movie star of now isn't as bankable or as sure hits and plentiful as yesteryears but they very much still influence a film's box office success.

I know the bigger star power these days comes with known IPs but I put it to you that if you pair shitty actors with little influence, the fanbase will revolt.

The only reason why you're saying this "death of the movie star is mainly because Hollywood major releases in recent years have focused more on IP projects which are safer and being good returns regardless of actors. So films that solely relied on star power are being less produced and less successful.

And that's majorly because there's been a major shift in how consumers watch their content now with the emergence of streaming. If it isn't an event film, no one is willing to spend top dollar or not from a very top actor in a highly compelling project.

What I'll say now is that there's been a more symbiotic relationship with star actors and star power directors collaborating to make projects even bigger and successful. Directors have metamorphosised into more influential figures to excite audiences. These two combo are even more important to some IPs than the individual IPs themselves.

SINNERS this year is an example of movie star + star power director going really well.
BARBIE did that with Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in 2023. I'm not believing that this combo didn't play to that movie's strength regardless of how popular the Barbie brand was and how viral the marketing was. If it were a way different actress and director for that film I can bet you it wasn't going to hit that $1bn plus. I remember many even believing it would flop here back then, especially considering Margot's string of flops back then.

Of course it is Hollywood's job to mold new stars in the industry every 3-5 years. There's just a few of them now that truly bring the audience but they are still very much around. And new ones spawned out. Eg, Timothee Chalamet is a bonafide star in every metric you put out and he was shaped few years ago. There's Robert Pattinson too.

Of course we can't forget about the power directors in Chris Nolan and James Cameron who can sell tickets with their names alone. I want to believe Ryan Coogler has joined this elite list too tho on a more limited scale.

Fatal Attraction (1987)......6.5/10

A film about the dangers of obsession and bordering on psychopathy.
A well to do lawyer gets into a one night stand with a female colleague. But what happened just one night refuses to stay that way. She gets possessive, asking for more, stalking till it turns into full blown obsession and can't move on from the fact that the guy just wanted to have fun one night only. It's not as if he didn't make it clear in the first place that this thing isn't growing past that night.

Glenn Close really played a mentally unstable person to the tee. Michael Douglas played his part well too.

The second half of the film was a little too annoying for me to enjoy what it was trying to say but I appreciate the themes of mental health, extreme obsession and violence.

I regret watching this movie and Hollywood is really trying to push nonsense in our heads, first it was That “3some movie” with that unrealistic plot twist and now this, all the adults in this movie are cheaters and I can’t even blame the ones that died

The only thing that I love in this movie is The two young leads were great, The boy from “how to Train your Dragon” and my beautiful daughter, I can’t believe she’s 19yrs now and she still looks same like a baby.
