Rising tension in Katsina as CJTF personnel fatally shoot father of bandit leader in Malumfashi

The fragile peace in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State has been threatened following the fatal shooting of Alhaji Ibrahim Nagode, 60, by Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) personnel.

Nagode, a resident of Na’alma village, is the father of a known bandit leader, Haruna Ibrahim, also called “Fada”.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the shooting occurred as Fada was returning to his village, following a recently brokered peace accord between bandits and the communities in Malumfashi.

Security sources said the area had been on high alert after intelligence suggested that suspected armed bandits were regrouping in the locality.
In a bid to prevent renewed attacks, the joint troops were deployed to intensify patrols as proactive measure to forestall any hostile activity,” a security source said. However, the operation reportedly resulted in the tragic death of Nagode.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested all CJTF personnel involved in the incident.

Sources said that the authorities are monitoring the situation closely, warning that the death of the bandit leader’s father could escalate tensions in the region.

The sources expressed concern over the potential for retaliation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and adherence to peace accords to prevent further bloodshed.

Meanwhile security operatives have called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements in their areas.

Like you said we are on our own. The military know where the bandits are but some powers up there are beneficiaries of this banditry and they would do nothing to stop it.

We are actually own our own. The only time the president would do something is it it brings him bad publicity or his family is directly affected

Nigeria is every trait of a failed state. A CJTF guy shot the father of a terrorist kingpin whom has been killing other people's fathers and children,in other to appease the terrorists whom we are so much afraid of,these guys were picked up instantly,well let's say is for proper investigation to ascertain if it was intentional or just collateral damage.
But where I have serious issues with our security is when there is security reports that his son's group are regrouping in the locality probably on a revenge mission,what stops pur military to attack them first and neutralise those bastards,must we always be on the defensive when it comes to these bandits terrorists,why can't we be on the offensive,why are we making these Fulani terrorists look like privilege terrorists.

As a Nigerian, reading this fills me with a profound sense of frustration and anger. This tragic incident in Malumfashi is a symptom of the larger failure that is our government's "soft" approach to terrorism.

We are told that "bandits" and "terrorists" are being fought, yet we constantly see them treated with kid gloves. There are endless talks of "amnesty" and "rehabilitation" for mass murderers, while ordinary, law-abiding citizens are left to be butchered. Now, we see a proactive security patrol, and the one person who is killed is the father of a known bandit leader. Where is Fada? Why is he not the one in a body bag or behind bars? It seems the only people who face the full, often tragic, force of the state are civilians, even those tangentially linked to these criminals.

The swift arrest of the CJTF members is typical. It shows the government is quick to punish those genuinely involved in the fight against terrorism, but lacks the same political will to decisively eliminate the known terrorists terrorizing our communities. This creates a crippling paradox: our forces are either hesitant to act for fear of repercussions, or their actions lead to tragic outcomes that further alienate the communities they are meant to protect.

This is not security. This is a cycle of failure. We are tired of the excuses and the half-measures. The government must choose: either decisively declare these bandits as terrorists and deploy overwhelming force against them, or admit that they have lost control. The current strategy of treating wolves like stray dogs is getting our people unalived from all sides 😞💔💔

I agree with you. This operational standard practice except the man has been found to be abeiting his son's activities.

In the SE, at the peak of security crack down on Ipob members, once the forces here that a member of a household is an Ipob member, they will just storm the village and begin to kill anything that moves and later set houses ablaze. A lot of innocent citizens lost their lives due to these high-handedness by security forces. It should not be so at all.

If a poor man on the street steal money from his boss in the office, Police will arrest his mother, father, siblings, nephews, nieces, aunt, and uncle, but bandits father and family members were leaving on the largesse of kidnapping. No kwam!

Police, DSS, Army, Airforce definitely turned a blind eye, rather raise olive branch, fight, and prosecute the law abiding citizens!
