My neighbor's younger brother and wife just lost 3.5 million naira to a round of failed IVF.
They are devastated.

They've been trying to conceive naturally 7 years now until a family friend out of good intentions directed them to a IVF specialist with a good track record.

After several investigations, physical
examinations, scans, injections, pills, supplements. The resulting embryos did not do well in-utero.

And that was 3.5 million naira gone with the ocean breeze....

No free repeat cycle,no refund.
Quite an unpleasant development.
Nawa ooo. Not everyone IVF really works for. They'll need to first go herbal and then medical. I bet with you, they can't escape it, walahi. Tell them to chat me up for a best solution on WhatsApp 09038285500.

LMFAO did they give them a guarantee? People go through multiple IVF circles before it works through, they should go check their health and diet to improve their parameters. We just burnt $25,000 on our first round and trust me it hurts but it is part of the process...
Did you say you just spent $25,000 on IVF? shocked

Even the Adoption process is not easy.
A Neighbor of mine registered for adoption since September last year, up till now she hasn't gotten a call from the Ministry of Gender Affairs.
She is now searching for another place that is affordable and Legal.
This is the reason why baby factories are booming

Please someone should help me with a reasonable answer to my question.

Why would a woman give birth to a baby and not breastfeed the child for a single day? I mean nothing like breastfeeding.

A woman I know very well in her late forties has three children now and never breasted any of them for a single day.
The children were probably adopted

What happened to adoption?. There are millions of hungry, uneducated and unloved children in Nigeria waiting for a home. Just imagine what this wasted money could do for even just one or two children.

Stop massaging your egos and open your hearts to loving a child you did not give birth to.
It sounds easy to say until you find yourself in that situation

Then they should try adoption, there is still hope.
If adopting was palatable to them you think they would have thrown 3.5M to the breeze?

You have never advertised herbal medicines here, now suddenly you have become a herbal doctor? huh

Angelfrost:
The doctor didn't investigate properly the underlying infertility issues before implanting.

One major issue that might or actually leads to IVF failures is ENDOMETRITIS.

Once there is chronic inflammation of the uterine lining, mostly due to undetected infection or inflammatory mediators (diet mostly), implantation will never happen except by Miracle.

Sadly, a lot of Nigerian specialists don't bother to check for this and aggressively treat... Or maybe they don't have the equipment to do so.
One would expect that an IVF procedure costing N3.5 million would include a comprehensive test to eliminate factors that could lead to failure

What's the quality of embryo transferred? A, B, or C, how many was transferred, and at what stage was the transferred done? Expanded blastocysts?

If she has at least one or two "A-grade" embryos transferred in the failed attempt and, at least, two left (i.e., thawed and frozen), please advise her to look for money and try again ASAP (not more than 3 months after the failed attempt).

The second attempt will most likely work for obvious reasons: her body will no longer consider those embryos “foreign entities.” Subsequent attempts are typically stress-free, provided she already have quality eggs or embryos frozen during the initial and most difficult stage, which is the egg retrieval process.

Maybe Hiv positive, just maybe .....but there are several treatments available now to enable the mother breast feed...

Let him not be discouraged. It doesn't always work on the first try. There are some huddles to cross for a successful IVF.

This issue popped up in my head yesterday. I have a question to ask though. Is the success rate here the same with what is obtainable abroad?
My good friend who has been TTC for years and has gone through a lot of process with no luck traveled to the UK with the wife and boom! They had triplets! Though I can't say for sure if they did IVF here in Nigeria, but at some point they just relaxed.
Cc: confidentialdoc
Success rate really depends on the clinic and the expertise of the specialist. A specialist in FESTAC Lagos may actually have a solid track record compared to a consultant in Birmingham UK.

It isn't really about equipment. It's about protocol and best practices. Some specialist are just so good at this compared to others. Irrespective of location.

Not every couple is emotionally prepared to go down the route of donor egg/ Surrogacy. In Nigeria here, most specialist will tell any woman 38 years or older to get an egg donated.

The sperm of the husband , if suitable may be used but genetically the resulting babies are not related to the woman.
It's a hard pill to swallow for some couples, other couples are just too desperate to care and proceed with egg donation.

I will advise any intending couple TTC to take this survey before making any hasty decision about IVF treatment.

Surrogacy is a matter of renting a womb from a younger woman. The egg may or may not belong to the intending mother.

Surrogacy is recommended in cases where the woman has a damaged womb.
Absent womb (Hysterectomy)

Or the woman is extremely advanced in age

or suffering from a chronic illness which precludes pregnancy.

So what do you suggest they do?
Before the procedure, every clinic will get you to sign a consent form. Terms and conditions are attached.
So you will know all the risks involved, financial and physical before proceeding.

I was once in that situation but with low sperm count. I didn’t take it seriously for about three years. After making some lifestyle changes ( Alcohol stopped completely) and also too ewe Abo with lime Orange for a month, things improved, both sexual desire and spam counts and a later test showed better results. By the third month, my wife conceived. I think couples in that situation should seek proper support and guidance also from their villages or local herbal shop. Most time If the problem is from the woman, always hard to resolve but Na from man, easiest to resolve.

I have many instances, where IVF was successful on the first attempt.
In fact, the more the attempts the higher the chance of failure.
It's really wonderful when IVF works on the first trial.

But unfortunately many centres are not really doing the utmost best to ensure success on the first trial.

Take the IVF pre assessment/suitability Questionnaire
And get an idea of the probability for successful outcome before embarking.
