Trust the useless government at your own risk.
It's up to state governors to ensure it's enforcement in their states.

This is a welcome development. We need to address the age-old conflict between farmers and herders, and this seems like a step in the right direction. The economic prospects mentioned also sound promising for Nigeria.
na today? Implementation is the problem.

Local govt autonomy, state policing and other laws that has been passed none has been implemented, not even at 5 percent rate.
We never serious at all for this countryside.

This is just a word of mouth which has no value. If they are serious about it, let them send a bill to the national assembly specifying the punishment for any one that breaks the law. Until that is done, it remains ordinary word of mouth that has no teeth to bite

The defaulters should be charged with Treason
Image123:
Alleluia, as in hallelujah. Is this for real or November fool? E remain implementation, and what is the punishment for defaulters? FG good policies dey take time to kick in. They need to make this a law, it's not just for one minister to say it in an event.
A capital offense is a crime that is punishable by the death penalty. Am i dreaming? The way government officials seize bad things like rice and provisions and burn them. Maybe, they can do the same here to be fair to all crimes, just suggesting. Those miyetti whatever no go sleep tonight.

Do they have a legislative backing on this decision? A presidential directive or declaration wouldn't suffice as such might not transcend successive governments

Farmers herder crisis kpai una.. wat a false narrative..

Re: Nigerian Govt Bans Open Grazing To End Farmers-Herders Conflicts by abbey621(m): 9:10pm On Nov 25, 2025
Who go enforce am? Are we giving farmers right to defend themselves now? Will herdsmen be arrested for violating the ban? DEY PLAY grin grin grin
Re: Nigerian Govt Bans Open Grazing To End Farmers-Herders Conflicts by bigiyaro(m): 9:10pm On Nov 25, 2025
There is nothing like farmer-herder conflict, tell your terrorists herders to stop moving their cattle from the north, to go and eat up farms in the middle belt and south. The people moving about are the trouble seekers and makers, crops don't move, cows do.
Re: Nigerian Govt Bans Open Grazing To End Farmers-Herders Conflicts by Mamaafrik1(m): 9:11pm On Nov 25, 2025
Federal Government should not have any business with it if they want to be honest with the system. It's the duty of government to make laws and regulations as we see it happened now.
The state owns land and have the right to invest in it as any other sectors of agriculture. The state can partner with private investors as we have in some states Kebbi and Niger .
Animal Husbandry is a branch of Agriculture that is open for individual investors so anybody can secure land and invest in it. The state, especially in our region should not in anyway accept just anybody to buy large lands for Fulani stocks. We had such at the then University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. The animals are not wild types and they were very robust.

Let our people dominate the business and they can partner with successful farmers outside Nigeria.

It's a good idea and opportunity if the states understood it in the right way.

AlphaTaikun:
Over 90% of Miyetti Allah members are NOT Fulani Nigerians but from other countries largely from Niger Republic but living in Ogun State and other parts of Nigeria. MOST of the cows eaten in Nigeria are brought in from Niger Republic, Cameroon, and other Sahelian countries by these foreign Fulas. These foreign Fula should stay back in the original countries they came from and allow their governments to create ranches for them. NOT one Kobo of Nigeria money should be spent on ranching for foreign Fulas.

It was a Fulani guy who claims to be from Niger State that revealed this vital information about the majority of Miyetti Allah members (90%) being foreign Fulas in an interview I read about 10 years ago. These foreign Fulas (who he said speak a different dialect of Fulfude from the one he speaks) WANTED to kill him due to a rivalry issue among the Miyetti Allah members in Ogun State so he went to Punch newspaper to reveal the attempts by the foreign Fulas to eliminate him. This is why these foreign Fulas show NO mercy when they attack communities and kill with NO empathy towards indigenous people of Nigeria (such as the Hausas, Tiv, Southern Kaduna folks, Plateau folks, Yoruba, Nupe, Bariba, Edo, Delta North folks, etc, who they have routinely killed with AK-47s BECAUSE they are NOT from Nigeria). They just simply run back across the porous non-existent borders to Niger Republic, Mali and Cameroon, Mauritania, Guinea, etc, whenever they strike in Nigeria or they turn the indigenous people to refugees and rename the sacked Hausa communities and Plateau State communities into Fulani names since 2001 during the President Olusegun Obasanjo Goverment. Enough is enough.

ALL the Middle Belt and Southern States MUSt set up their own cattle ranches and dairy farms to provide cattle meat and milk using improved varieties of cattle and managed by the indigenes of each State. NO foreign Fula should be allowed to bring their cows again. Lagos State and Niger State are ALSO looking at a plan for Niger State to supply package cattle meat to the Lagos markets. Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Central and Southern Kwara, Kogi States, etc, can ALSO host these new commercial hybrid cattle and dairy farms to supply the North Central, West Nigeria and for export. Period.
I don't know how true this is, but it's eye opening and gives a different view to the situation

Finally, Tinubu may your road continue to be rough like this, so that Nigerians can breathe easy.

President Trump, thank you, but apply more pressure.

The ears of Nigeria politicians must open by fire by force.

I know

But all along they have been using the so-called cattle rearing to wreck havoc on other people live and property. Not to produce milk and meat.

This is good development but then a lot needs to be put in place for this rule to work.

My first question is where does the FG want the herders to feed their hundreds and thousands of herds without open grazing?

With this policy farmers would feel legalized to attack fulani and their herds grazing any community in return herders will take revenge.

A big war is looming, I don't think this policy is holistically reviewed.
Cattle consumes far less in ranches

These ones that roam from one state to the other consume far more food like X30 ,
They still end up producing skeleton meat and few drops of milk! Big waste!

There's no farmer-herders conflicts.

There are herders moving about killing innocent farmers on their farms

Before now, did Fulani not know that cattle is no longer reared in other parts of the world through herdsmen wandering around the open spaces with cattle?
Fulani is in land grab in Nigeria.

Where Are The Cows? Is Evans A Herdsman?'

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

This is a very commendable decision that is long overdue but it's better late than never, however the decision needs streamlining in the sense that the logistics for private ranching is capital n financially extensive n this might be a big hinderance so the federal government should liase with the state governors with fulani indigenous population to create grazing reserves so that all persons interested in cattle rearing with out their own lands to move to those grazing reserves ,if not the problem will still persist as right now there are vast land that is been occupied by armed herdsmen after violently displacing the owners of the land who are now living as IDPs,so the federal government need to go a step further even though this step is very much commendable.
