You only call for Southern unity when you need assistance to get votes or get presidency and once you people get that support and get the presidency ,you now divide the south Nigeria along tribal lines abusing igbos and Niger Delta so you people can have everything meant for the South without sharing .

.. where will they get money to fund the state police... money to pay their salaries, allowances monthly, buy AK-47 rifles, weapons and ammunition for the state police, buy patrol vehicles, police uniforms, build police station for state police .. these are governors that are still owing some of their government workers, civil servants arrears of salaries and also owing pensions ..so a lot of financial burden on the governors..so where will they get money to maintain and take care of the state police and pay them

I guess they are advocating it to some Northern governors. I think it was the complaints from some Northern states that stalled it because they spoke about their potential inability to fund state police in some of their states. And I think that explains why Tinubu recently asked that the lawmakers should modify the constitution such that any state that wanted state police could go ahead with having one.

I understand what Tinubu said about it being optional but this is Southern Governors forum so whats the excuse?

This southern governors shit always gets activated to serve the interest of the South west. The South west fears that the bandits they supported are infiltrating their region and suddenly they remembered South governors scam thing, just the same way they used it to their advantage in the last general election. Where were they when a democratically elected governor of Rivers state was illegally removed?

Lagos State, Rivers State, Ogun State, Delta State, Akwa-Ibom State, Abuja...can't these states fund state police? What happenes to the personnel and equipment currently in each state for a start?

I believe that this is not an "excuse". I guess that the Southern Governors, decided to collectively voice their support for state police, perhaps, to let it be on record that they are not the one holding it back. And this can serve as a wake up call for southern lawmakers to push harder for the constitutional amendment that is required at the national bill before state police can become operational.

Security is the primary responsibility of government. They should reduce capital projects by 40% and use the money to fund the state police

I mean the southern govs need to be more forceful. When you say advocacy, it means trying to convince others to join. They don't need to convince anybody because the president said those that are willing should start. He just needs to instruct his rubberstamp assembly to pass it immediately

Okay, I get your perspectives now. And talking about the rubber-stamp national assembly (as you put it) it is not that easy when it comes to a constitutional amendment. For it, to become law 2/3rd of the states house of assemblies have to agree to it. That is where the conundrum is and there is need for tact to convince the northern states on the need to support state policing. Otherwise, it cannot be forced.

These are the facts of the matter that we have to live with. No matter how strongly we believe in certain principles, constitutional democracy in a multi-ethnic society like ours, can slow down things.

..the main solution is for the government to address and tackle.. poverty, hunger, hardship, rural, villages, communities underdevelopment , high inflation, high costs of living, high rate of unemployment for they say an idle mind is the devil's workshop and an hungry man is an angry man.. and insecurity, kidnapping, banditry and criminal activities will reduce and stop gradually .
Even the police due to hardship, hunger, bad economy they can also be an accomplice to this criminal, bandits, terrorists inorder to get money from them to survive the hard economy and hunger, hardship and these things normally happens among some police and military..so it's better for government to address the poverty, hunger, hardship and bad economy

These are long term goals but there's already massive insecurity. Where I stay in Canada, the counties have their own police department. Infact, no state prolice, its local govt police and federal police!

One local govt police will not go to another local govt to make arrest, they must request from the other local govt

As at this time only the South west has a regional security network that has achieved a lot of results.Those in the South west know of those results.

Now is the time to support them.Better not be a cog in the wheel of progress and allow the whole south strengthen its regional security with that model,so the blood of those who died don't cry on your head join.
