The Federal High Court in Abuja has allegedly refused to issue a production warrant that would allow officials of the Sokoto Correctional Centre to transport the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to Abuja for the formal settlement of records required for his pending appeal.
Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel, raised the allegation on Thursday, providing documents said to be the official summons from the court’s registry directing the IPOB leader to appear on November 28, 2025, for the appeal record-settling session.
Settlement of records is a mandatory step in the appeal process under the Court of Appeal Rules.
According to Prince Emmanuel, the court summons—dated November 11, 2025, and signed by Ojonugwa Thomas, Principal Registrar I—clearly instructed all parties to appear at the Appeal Section of the Federal High Court, Abuja, to complete the procedure.
However, he stated that while the summons required Kanu’s presence, the court allegedly refused to issue the production warrant necessary to authorize his transfer from Sokoto Prison to Abuja.
The summons reads in part:
“Take notice that all parties concerned are required to appear before me… on the 28th day of November, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., to proceed with settlement of record of appeal therein.”
The appeal, filed under charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2025, lists Nnamdi Kanu as appellant and the Federal Republic of Nigeria as respondent.
Kanu was on November 20, 2025, convicted on terrorism charges and sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja. He is currently serving his sentence at the Sokoto Prison.

This appeal application was filed on 11th of November and it predates his conviction on 21st.

The appeal was seeking that Justice Omotosho postpone his final ruling of the criminal case he (Kanu) was on trial for.

The Appeal has now expired since the final ruling has been passed by the court.

Kanu can only now appeal the judgement within the stipulated period of 60 days after sentencing.

And if whenever the Appeal court decides to sit on his matter (criminal appeals are treated on first come, first served basis), the Appeal court's NW zone will be sitting in Sokoto.

This could be anywhere between 2ys to 5ys.

Kanu's appeal process is well structured. The government would have to go through the due process too.

While this is informative, do not expect IPOB and their supporters to agree with you. Those who are more enlightened among them may understand the situation, but they continue to mislead their less informed followers with falsehoods and unfounded propaganda, using social media stunts to gain public sympathy. This tactic is part of their usual strategy to undermine the court and the judges who will handle the appeal, just as they attempted to do in the lower court before Justice Omotosho courageously delivered the deserved verdict.

Even this appeal filed on the 11th would have been thrown out as the Appeal court can not rule before a lower court and is not expected to interfere with an ongoing trial in same lower court.

It was all a desperate attempt to postpone judgement day.

Kanu will spend at least 2ys before his appeal comes up for hearing.

Hopefully, his current status as a convicted felon and inmate serving life in Sokoto Prison will give him time to reflect on the seriousness of his crimes and his reckless behaviour in court which will prepare him to act accordingly before the Appeal Panel Judges.

IPOB continued reliance on lies on playing the victim card and formulating the '' we vs them '' mentality to garner support.

IPOB needs to implant the notion that Nigerians hate Ibos to get a united front amongst ibos and support for their movement.

Its just like how Jewish groups need antisemitism to get Jews united and to push censorship and laws that critisize Jewish behaviour and crimes, thus making Jews immune to being called out and their crimes going unpunished.

This is why almost everything that exposes Jewish behaviour is deemed antisemitic.

Even the New Testament is being labelled as antisemitic by the ADL and they are lobbying the US Congress to have the New Testament edited to remove every condemnation Jesus and the apostles made of the Jews .

In Ukraine, a New York based Jewish Rabbi was given the task by the Zelensky led Jewish dominate autocratic regime to reform the now Ukrainian Orthodox church that Zelensky divorced from the Russian Orthodox church.

But I digress.
